Tom Luginbill: (4:27 PM ET ) I'll now be taking your questions.

Stephen (Fort Smith): Tom, Springdale, AR is supposedly a top team in the nation this year. Any word on where Mitch Mustain or any of these great players will go?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:30 PM ET ) No word yet on Mustain. From what I've seen thus far, he may be one "the most ready to play right away" QBs in this class. Take into account that he also the most talented supporting cast around him on offense. He has a lot of help. Physically he has all the tools to be an impact player and plays in a wide open attack that is preparing him for the college game.

Ryan (Los Angeles, CA): In your past two chats you havent answered a USC question. Since there seems to be a east coast bias so far, what east coast players will USC steal from Florida to New Jersey?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:33 PM ET ) East Coast bias? I was born and raised in Southern California. One thing about the Trojans is they are in a position right now to lure the elite players at every position out West. As a result, they don't feel the need to jump the gun and offer players just for the sake of offering them. I can assure you that if a player is out there right now and has an in-writing offer from USC, then he is in their opinion a difference maker and worth offering at this early stage. I believe that USC is going to make sure that they are recruiting just as hard and just as heavily as everybody else, but they're certainly going to make sure they evaluate prospects throughout their senior season as well.

Jessica (Birmingham): What are your thoughts on Neil Caudle (QB from Spain Park in AL)? Is the sleeper among the elite QB's as he comes back from his ACL injury?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:35 PM ET ) I talked to Neil Caudle's dad last week. Neil is 100 percent recovered from his ACL injury. In fact, he even played baseball this spring. I do not see Caudle as a sleeper -- I believe he could potentially end up as being one of our top 5 to 7 QBs in the country once we have completed our evaluations. He possesses the rare combination of outstanding running skills and an elite skills as a passer as well. He reminds me an awful lot of Alex Smith from Utah. I belive he is a special player and if he were in the state of Texas or California or Florida, he might be getting even more attention than he's already getting.

Paul (San Diego): Ok...I'm sure noone cares about this but me...but What does Pitt's recruiting look like for this year? Has getting rid of Harris helped or hurt us?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:36 PM ET ) We certainly don't believe it's hurt. Obviously any time a program hires a former NFL head coach, there's a certain amount of attraction to that in the eyes of a student athlete.

Johnny, Apex NC: What are your thoughts on Josh Adams of Cary, NC? Is he NCST bound or Tenn?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:37 PM ET ) No word yet on where he's planning on attending school, but he is one of the top running backs on all of the East Coast. He possesses elite speed and change of direction skills and can create mismatches in the open field with the ability to make people miss.

Mark (Valparaiso, IN ): Talk to me about the Huskers, Please, any info is welcome info.

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:40 PM ET ) They received a verbal commitment from QB Josh Freeman out of Grandview, Missouri. I really like him a lot, but I'm not convinced he will end up playing QB at the college level. He is one of those unique players that has the ability to fit in at multiple positions. It makes him kind of a can't miss prospect because if he doesn't pan out at QB, he can make an impact at a position possibly on defense or even TE on offense.

Joe (Baton Rouge): Is Ryan Perrilloux good enough to come in and start as a freshman on a national championship caliber team?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:43 PM ET ) He has the physical tools to come in and start right away. However, the physical side isn't what's going to be the major adjustment for him. The mental leap between high school and the elite programs in D1 football is so dramatic that very few players particularly at the QB position are capable of handling right away. If Jamarcus Russell continues to struggle as a passer, and Ryan Perrilloux can show progress in his adjustment to the college game, I do believe that he could some playing time throughout his freshman year.

Chris (Scottsdale, AZ): Are the Sun Devils in a position to grab an elite running back on the west coast?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:44 PM ET ) California with RBs this year. There should be enough to go around and many of them are game-breaking, make people miss type runners.

Brandon (W.Monroe,La): Tom, what is your opinion of the newest LSU commit QB Alex Cate?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:48 PM ET ) As we're involved in evaluating these prospects at this time, it just so happens that I got done evaluating tape on Alex Cate. One of the knocks on Alex is his lack of ideal height and aside from that, he has all the attributes you look for in a college QB. He plays in an offense that showcases his ability, he's a very polished short to intermediate passer. He is above-average arm strength, but one of his best assets is his quick release and ability to get rid of the ball.

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:48 PM ET ) Obviously with them signing Perrilloux in last year's class and with Jamarcus Russell already there, Alex certainly isn't afraid of competition, and any time you have a competitor at the QB position, you're on the right track.

Dongyul (Ann Arbor): Tom.!!!!!!!!!!! Do you think Michigan's QB tradition is helpful in QB recruiting?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:50 PM ET ) Yes, but I think they're tradition in winning is more important. When it comes down to it, it's a heck of a lot easier to recruit when you're winning then when you're losing. Winning breeds recruiting success and vice versa.

Shawn (atlanta): I know there are several good South Carolina prospects that are looking to go out of state. Is it too early to assume they are lost, or do we need to see what Spurrier can do this year?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:51 PM ET ) Certainly too early. A lot of recruiting to be done, and Coach Spurrier will get his share of in-state recruits, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

Mike (Chicago): Tom, Do you believe that the recruiting class of 2006 for Pennsylvania is AS good as the heralded class of 2001?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:51 PM ET ) It certainly is at QB and on defense.

Brad (Oxford, MS): Tom, please answer my question, I write in all the time and can never seem to get an answer from you. What do you think of how Ole Miss' class is shaping up? Orgeron has been very active in the early going which is a drastic change from Cut's philosophy.

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:55 PM ET ) The change in philosophy may be that Ole Miss is now coming out and offering kids earlier than they had in the past. That's not to imply that Ole Miss wasn't recruiting as hard this early in the past. I think with Orgeron's connections to the West Coast and his knowledge of the ability level in the state of California in particular may lead the Rebels to snag a few recruits out of California this year. I know that they are recruiting QB Garrett Green out of Notre Dame High in California very hard, and I think he is an underrated, sleeper QB that Ole Miss is correct on their evaluation on of him.

Mark (Valparaiso, IN ): When can we expect to really see how good this year's classes will be?

sn2.gif
Tom Luginbill: (4:59 PM ET ) After we've completed our evaluations at each position throughout this summer, we will then release our ESPN 150 and then our top ranked players at each position soon thereafter. Combined with the verbal commitments that are announced, we then will get a preliminary idea of where each school stands. Bear in mind, to do it the right way, the evaluation process does take some time. We are applying the same philosophy to this as we do to NFL free agency and college player evaluations.

Tom Luginbill: (5:00 PM ET ) Thanks for your questions, and next week we will welcome linebacker Sergio Kindle who has verbally committed to the University of Texas

The rolle chat as useful, but these should be posted inside of threads about the recruits (for instance the Myron Rolle thread, use the search button).

I don't understand what interest we would have in this Tom character... these chats are good but only useful if the bp members would care about reading this.
