I think it was to leverage UH on facilities and contract. I don't believe he seriously considered leaving for South Carolina, but he or his agent would not have told USCe that. The fact they entertained offers is not old news, Tom's admitted as much in interviews.

It can be both really. ie using it as leverage, but also seriously considering if Houston didn't match. UH ponied up, so he stayed with the better situation.

The bit about RichRod not considering it a legitimate offer though :rofl:
