2. what do the color commentators do during the week that prevents them from learning the players names? do they write columns? do local tv/radio? kick puppies? you'd think these guys be more interested in sounding like... you know... not idiots. what if espin/abc or whoever just hired one of the local radio guys to sit beside them and give them info? i understand when its some obscure 3rd or 4th string guy getting mop up duty. but how can it take 20+ seconds to look up a starters name? they'd sound more respectable by pulling a bubbah and calling them by their numbers.

Why are they called a color commentator and why do they feel the need to run their mouth even when they have nothing of intelligence to add to the game...further why are they not called state the obvious commentators as this is what most of them do.....

It was the first time I sat in the student section since I graduated a few years ago. It was nice to see the students in the stands again, and their dedication was impressive throughout the rain.

The guy next to me (who has been an undergrad for "too long" - 5th year? 6th? couldn't get it out of him) snuck a fifth of Jack Daniels into the stadium. Through an unspoken exchange that can only exist at the alumni/student level, we got our Cokes "upgraded," and he and his friends got brats from the concession stand.

The future looks bright, my friends.

Why would you want to go back to the old clock rules? I think the new ones are better in every way.

new clock rules dramatically decrease the # of plays per team. fewer plays = less football. you prefer less football? im starting to think you might be a communist...

I thought the number of plays had actually gone up with the new rules, but you may be right. I sure don't want fewer plays.

I think the deal was that the 40-second clock would lead to more plays, but that no longer stopping the clock for out-of-bounds would lead to fewer. What we really need is to shorten halftime IMO, and resume clock stoppage on out of bounds.

2009 NCAA College Football Polls and Rankings for Week 5 - ESPN

Conclusions: 1. Boise at 5 and all of the teams above them have tough games ahead while they (Boise) look at the WAC. If Florida, Texas, 'Bama, LSU loose so much as one game (and 2 of them are bound to), we'll have Boise in the NC game on the basis of a win over a mid level PAC 10 team.

2. If a perfect Florida has to play a one loss 'Bama or LSU in the SEC championship game and losses, and the SEC watches the NC slot go to Boise we may see the end of playoff games. Especially if a perfect Texas hiccups in its playoff game and a one loss USC gets in.

3. How bad is the rep of the Big 10 right now? Penn State loses one game and drops 10 spots. Of course it also spotlights what happens to teams who open the season with nothing but cup cakes. Notre Dame beats two Big 10 teams and is still outside the top 25.

4. The fate of the Buckeyes seems to be tied to USC. Scoring only 26, with Barkley, at home, and against Wazoo? I'm thinking they left their game on the field in Columbus.
