Time Warner - Epitome of Customer Care

What about local channels on Direct or Dish? I get KET, CET and Dayton PBS and while I could care less if I ever see another eyewitless news broadcast, I sure would miss having all the PBS options I currently enjoy.

I get all the PBS stations I need on DirecTV (living much in same area as yourself).

Also - if you have an HDTV that accepts an OTA tuner, or better yet one of the DirecTV set-top boxes that accept OTA input then these - plus others - will all show up in your guide.

You may be surprised at just how many PBS feeds are coming under each one of the various station's name BTW.

And as a side note, DirecTV came to an agreement with PBS late last year to carry their local PBS affiliates in HD finally. So look for your local PBS channel to appear in HD in the next few months.

And make sure you get the DirecTV tuner that can access their On Demand capabilities through the internet (I don't remember the model number off the top of my head). They currently offer hundreds of movies, TV shows, etc. through On Demand in standard def and a few in HD (with many more to come). Oh, and there's no extra charge for DirecTV's On Demand service either.

PBS has some of the best HD scientific and documentary footage around - still.

interesting timing... I just ordered U-verse this morning... if all goes to plan, TW will be dropped next week (make sure U-verse works before I dump TW).

For those interested, U-verse is now available in central Ohio. They are running a special that expires 2/18 (one month free, plus $50 rebate, plus $10 off monthly service, plus three boxes free (and no monthly fees for the boxes... unlike TW... one of the boxes is a DVR), as well as free instal).

Unlike TW, U-verse has the Big Ten Network, NFL network, ESPNU (at least I currently don't get ESPNU), FSN Cinci, FSN Clev., Sports Time Ohio (high school playoffs), and roughly 120 other channels I don't currently get... oh, and It's all digital (that also costs more at TW).

If I had the same package with TW, It would cost roughly $40 more each month... a fifty percent increase from U-verse...

Uverse does not have STO HD though... and the Indians are broadcasting away games in HD this year. For now it's a no-go for Uverse for me.

Also waiting for a 2nd HD stream. Until then, not putting up with recording shows in SD while I watch HD.
