Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

Everybody who knows my history of posts knows my feelings about Tim Beck.
Yes, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are at fault for giving him his first OC job.

But I blame you sonsobatches.

If he gets the OC job at Nebraska, it's like.....meh.....

But you guys give him the job at THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY....and extend him onto mankind for an additional 10 years, guaranteed.

Why didn't you listen to me, ya bastages!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

We had a corn fan @alexhortdog95 join our site and warn us of how Nebraska's QBs regressed and the pain of watching a game called by Beck. I tried to pay it forward but many horn fans didn't want to hear it. The guy sucks, then his MO is to blame the players. I went full nuclear here when he blamed our players after the 2016 Clemson embarrassment.

Dude, you KNEW I was gonna weigh in on this one....

It's 2009. Huskers are playing Texas Tech in Lincoln. Huskers are ranked 15th in the country.
Zac Lee (a kid who was scared of his own shadow, but very scared of Bo) is the starting QB. Nebraska is down 24-3 beginning of the 4th quarter.

A score here makes it a different game.

It's first and goal, on the Texas Tech 7 yard line. This is the series where I was done.

Mind you, this is how the drive ended.

1st & Goal at TTU 7

  • (14:20 - 4th) Marcus Mendoza rush for 3 yards to the TexTc 4, NEBRASKA penalty 15 yard Personal Foul accepted.
  • (13:00 - 4th) NEBRASKA penalty 5 yard False Start accepted.
  • (13:00 - 4th) Zac Lee pass complete to Marcus Mendoza for 9 yards to the TexTc 15.
  • (12:30 - 4th) Zac Lee pass complete to Marcus Mendoza for 1 yard to the TexTc 14.
  • (11:53 - 4th) Zac Lee pass incomplete to Niles Paul.
A series that started on the 7 yard line ended on the 14 with no points. NONE.

That Tim Beck offense at work, right there.

Two QBs combined to go 23/38 for 237 yards, 1 TD, 1 pick.
Roy Helu (who ran for 1,147 yards in 09, and for 1,245 in 10) had 68 yards on 16 carries. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Texas Tech ran for 25 yards...AS A TEAM.

Final score, 31-10.

I don't like using the word "hate." I've never hated anyone in my life.

But I DESPISE Tim Beck.

Yes, Beck was awful at Nebraska. And yes, what he did at tOSU is unforgivable. But shouldn't he be given some credit for what he did at Texas? Think where they might be if Herman had hired a competent O coordinator. We need to give him some kudos for setting Texas' offense back.

2015 vs. Michigan State: Ezekiel Elliot had 12 carries for 33 yards.
2016 vs. Penn State: Curtis Samuel had 2 carries for 71 -- Mike Weber? 21 for 71. JT Barrett? 17 for 26.

Fuuuuuuuuck Tim Beck. Hard.

shot: osu scored on each possession where elliott carried the ball more than once.

chaser: there was only one possession where elliott carried the ball more than once.
What's this? I have no memory of such fuckery.

I will miss Beck's inspired playcalling:
1. QB battering ram 20x per game, leading to concussions and broken ribs, while running backs look bored and get a combined 12 carries.
2. WR screens without any blocking that rely on 2 broken tackles to get 3 yards
3. Running a counter on the first drive of the game to gain 18 yards, then never running it again. Inside zone the rest of the time, averaging a smooth 1.8 ypa.
4. Zone reads that aren't really zone reads. The only time the QB actually has an open running lane (because he never keeps and the DE always follows the RB), he hands off because he's too beat up from #1.
5. Abandoning the run in the 2nd quarter, and then running the same 3 passing plays with the exact same formations the rest of the game, allowing DBs to jump routes and put the game away with 4th quarter interceptions.

But maybe that will all work in the ACC?

Beck did not come without a warning label.

Just say’n.

... and in fairness we, too, were warned.

But don’t take that as sympathy in any way. I hope that we continue to have a long and prosperous extradition process of your state’s best players to tOSU for years to come. Beck, being a solid recruiter in TX leaving the program only makes that easier.

So, win / win?

That sounds vaguely familiar.............
