Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

I will miss Beck's inspired playcalling:
1. QB battering ram 20x per game, leading to concussions and broken ribs, while running backs look bored and get a combined 12 carries.
2. WR screens without any blocking that rely on 2 broken tackles to get 3 yards
3. Running a counter on the first drive of the game to gain 18 yards, then never running it again. Inside zone the rest of the time, averaging a smooth 1.8 ypa.
4. Zone reads that aren't really zone reads. The only time the QB actually has an open running lane (because he never keeps and the DE always follows the RB), he hands off because he's too beat up from #1.
5. Abandoning the run in the 2nd quarter, and then running the same 3 passing plays with the exact same formations the rest of the game, allowing DBs to jump routes and put the game away with 4th quarter interceptions.

But maybe that will all work in the ACC?

Wrap your head around the fact he did that to such a degree at OSU that he managed to lose a game with Zeke at RB and Mike Thomas at WR.

It still amazes me that this man continues to find employment. I have no idea how he does it.

SOURCE: Former #Texas OC Tim Beck is expected to be the next offensive coordinator at #NCState. An announcement could come as early as tomorrow.. Beck and Dave Doeren go back to their KU days in the mid 2000s.. Zach Barnett first reported the move.

We were worried about that as soon as he was announced. Watching JTB's regression and misuse of Zeke was all we needed to know that we were going to have some problems. Rarely do you have such a clean story to tell with numbers. 2014 vs 2015-2016 vs 2017, all with JTB as quarterback, and the middle 2 years with Beck. I don't know how anyone* could look at that and decide Beck was a good choice.

I joined the old texasshaggy back then to offer my condolences on the hire. I was railed on over there and told that Beck was a great coach and the OSU problems were well know to be all on Warriner.

When you have a shiny new thing, it's tough to admit it's very flawed. Especially by the irrational fanboys. There were plenty of dissenters, including me. I kept posting JTB's passer rating with and without Beck and none of the fanboys could ever provide a logical response. Hard to argue with the numbers.

Obviously JTB's 2017 wasn't available when Herman brought on Beck. But after UT's 2017 offense proved to be anemic, and JTB had a nice 2017, it was pretty obvious Beck was the problem, and even the fanboys turned on him. So you were vindicated.

We had a corn fan @alexhortdog95 join our site and warn us of how Nebraska's QBs regressed and the pain of watching a game called by Beck. I tried to pay it forward but many horn fans didn't want to hear it. The guy sucks, then his MO is to blame the players. I went full nuclear here when he blamed our players after the 2016 Clemson embarrassment.
