Source: Ohio State to hire Tim Beck

Ohio State plans to add former Nebraska offensive coordinator Tim Beck to its coaching staff after the College Football Playoff National Championship Presented by AT&T, a source told ESPN.

Beck is expected to replace former Buckeyes offensive coordinator Tom Herman, who will become Houston's head coach.

Co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach is a likely title for Beck, according to the source.

Beck has held the positions of running backs coach, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator since joining Nebraska in 2008.

Beck has coached several star offensive players at Nebraska, including Ameer Abdullah, Rex Burkhead, Taylor Martinezand Kenny Bell.

Ohio State and Nebraska have had two of the most successful offenses in the Big Ten over the last few years, with both programs operating versatile versions of the spread offense.

Beck has also coached at Kansas State and Kansas.

Do we like what this guy runs? Not sure I'm too excited about this but I'm no football coach.
Warinner is the OC, this guy (or any other hire) will be his assistant.

Beck has solid recruiting ties in Florida and Texas and he has worked with Warinner before at Kansas.

The main concern would be how well he can develop QB talent given the relative mess they're had in Nebraska lately- but that might be explained away by what he had to work with up there.

Well said - an experienced coach with ties already in Texas which I think was a big focus. The "co-OC" is always a scary and sometimes confusing title but as you said, he's not going to be a play caller but will help in the game planning. This should be a very good situation for both parties and be a pretty seamless transition IMO.

Re: Beck was born in Youngstown, Ohio on March 14, 1966, and graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School. Both current Nebraska head football coach, Bo Pelini, and his brother, Carl Pelini, who formerly served as Nebraska's defensive coordinator, also graduated from Cardinal Mooney.

He has an Ohio connection. And I guess you can put "former Nebraska head coach" in front of Bo Pelini.
