NEW YORK -- Tiki Barber will work for NBC next year after spending most of the 2006 NFL season entertaining bids from various networks for jobs in both news and sports.

He finished fourth in the NFL with 1,662 yards rushing, iFor his career, he had 10,449 yards rushing and 5,182 yards receiving, joining Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk as only the third player in NFL history with 10,000 yards rushing and 5,000 receiving for their careers.

Hall of fame?

10/5 in a career should get you in.

I'm really torn on that one: those have certainly always been HoF numbers, but 10K rushing isn't a shoo-in anymore (I'll be surprised if Eddie gets in), and Barber seems like more of a "compiler" than one of the truly dominant players of the era (which Faulk and Marcus Allen--the other 10/5 guy--were IMO). Plus, Faulk and Allen both won Super Bowls.

Congrats to Tiki. I don't think he is HOF material either (basing HOF-caliber off of stats is a poor way to judge), but he's been a pretty cool guy throughout his career. I also think I could enjoy his commentating, as he seems to be pretty well centered and not dependant on getting media attention for making outlandish claims and remarks.

I never minded Tiki (or his brother) and actually thought they were decent guys. However, Tiki's behavior this season was crap.

Why in the world would a player feel the need to announce "This will be my last year playing in the NFL."??????

It doesn't bring a anything positive to the situation. As noted all season, the media gives it too much attention. Additionally, I think his teammates would get pissed for being a sideshow to the Tiki Barber career decision.

Until this season I thought he was unlike most other Footballers in that he had a good head on his shoulders and was realistic about life (more to life than football).

He said it once, trying to be honest to his team, (unlike that jackass Saban) and the media went nuts because he was at the prime of his career.

Eh, if I was a Giants player, I'd feel more annoyed being a sideshow to the annual Eli "When will I play like a complete pussy" Manning show.

Whether intentional or not, it was a smart move for an aspiring media personality... the media promoted the future of Tiki all season, and now he has cashed it in.

Sheesh, there's been plenty of people who have said "this is my last season" in all sports and it hasn't effected them or the team. So why are people busting Tiki's balls? Whether it leaked or was intentional it's HIS business. His announcement had little to do with the teams performance, in fact you could say he was about the only shining star on that team.

If people want to say something about the Giants they can say that Eli is a little bitch and needs to step up his play. He's easily rattled, he tries too hard when they are behind and I think he's colorblind half the time as he can't figure out WHO to throw the ball to. Top that all off with some of the worst decision making since Ryan Leaf and you have a #1 Draft pick.

Now for the question, is Tiki HoF material? I don't think so, he's a good back and he's been great for the Giants but he hasn't done anything that's been spectacular or forced people to change the way they defend him.

What a whiny little bitch...maybe he and Eli got along real well.

NEW YORK -- Tiki Barber spent part of his first day as a full-time media personality criticizing his former boss at his last day job.

Barber, who will work on NBC's "Today Show" and on the network's Sunday night football coverage, said his problems with New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin had "started to take its toll on me" and that it was an "act of God' that the physical demands Coughlin placed on him did not result in serious injuries.

"Coach Coughlin is very hard-nosed, and I didn't get a lot of time off, couldn't sit down and rest myself, and so it was a constant grind -- a physical grind on me that started to take its toll," Barber told reporters Tuesday after his introduction as the newest correspondent of the "Today Show."
You should read read this article...Barber is like superman:

Tiki gets served, divorce papers | ProFootballTalk.com
Several weeks ago, even as some of you were complaining that we had avoided the story of Tiki Barber leaving his wife for another woman while his wife was eight months pregnant with twins because we're beholden to NBC, we actually had posted several stories on the subject.

So here's the latest.

Barber has been served with divorce papers by his wife, Ginny. According to TMZ (not to be confused with TMZ-ESPN), the development comes at a time when the couple had agreed to press pause on the dissolution of their marriage until the new Barber babies had been born.

And, yes, Tiki was at the 2010 NFL draft -- but not as part of the NBC Sports contingent, which consisted of yours truly and Rosenthal. Still, the New York Daily News reports that Tiki remains a contributor to the Today show.

In this context, "contributor" possibly means "guy who'll never been seen on camera again but will remain on the payroll until his contract expires."
