Tiger Woods (Offical Thread)

Another suggestion for the beginning golfer - use the Stableford scoring system.

You get one point for a bogey, two for a par, three for a birdie, etc. The more points the better.

Part of the frustration for the beginner is that you can play a couple of good holes, drop a number of 7s and 8s and you sill end up well over three digits. Your game is improving, but you aren't seeing it.

With Stableford you are rewarded for good holes buy not punished for the cluster-f*** holes. Keep regular score as well, but give yourself something you can - and should - feel good about. Big difference mentally.

And don't shave strokes on your card. That does nothing but hide improvements in your game.

You guys hate Tiger SO much. Yeah he isn't shooting well this week. But the commentary wasn't saturated with talks of Tiger. A minority of the conversation focused on him. Quit being such closed-minded haters of the guy and recognize that he has FOURTEEN major championship wins. 2nd all-time. He won 2 weeks ago at Arnold Palmer's tournament. He's not old and he's not irrelevant. He deserves the coverage he gets as well as the criticism. I don't like to see him throw tantrums on the golf course. Henrik Stenson threw a tantrum on 18 when he shot +4 on Thursday and all anyone said was poor guy. He embarrassed himself.

Tiger's game is not totally together. He is easily frustrated. The fact that the majority of people go out of their way to bash on the guy is proof enough that he is still relevant though. I'm 20 years old, and with that I will admit that I am very naive as well as biased. I grew up with Tiger in his prime. He was DOMINATING nearly every tournament he entered. I am a fan of Tiger Woods. My dad enjoys golfing, but I'm not sure if I'd be as enthusiastic about the sport if it weren't for Tiger.

The guy has 72 PGA wins, 38 European Tour wins, and 14 Major Championships. This week is not his week. He is in a time of transition. His whole world came crashing down on him, he's been injured, and he's changing his swing. His whole profession is publicized. The [Mark May] doesn't come easy for Eldrick. And then there are so many people who vehemently disregard anything he does, he can never truly win.

This year, the Green Jacket will be worn by someone other than Tiger Woods; thoroughly enjoyable for 98% of the BuckeyePlanet message board. I'll be rooting for Freddy, Lefty, and Bubba.

:slappy: LEAVE TIGER ALONE!

Screw Tiger. I hope he never wins another major. The thought of that crap stain beating Jack's Major record makes me puke.

Tiger may win 18 or 19 Majors maybe 20, but he won't come anywhere near this:

Nicklaus holds the record for most runner-up finishes in majors with 19.
Nicklaus holds the record for most top-five finishes in major championships with 56.
Nicklaus holds the record for most top-10 finishes in major championships with 73. This is 25 and 27 more than the next players Sam Snead (48) and Tom Watson (46), respectively.

You won't find a single player on the PGA tour that is anti-Tiger.

Tiger puts more money in everyones pocket. Love or hate him, the PGA needs him. The ratings prove it.

He certainly increases ratings, but the tour survived when he was out with an injury, and it will survive after he is gone. One guy is not bigger than the sport, no matter how good he is.

Haha. I just don't understand why people would exert so much negativity towards a person they don't know. The guy is really talented at golf, sometimes has bad rounds, and cheats on his wife. So what?

Well it's all been pretty well documented in the thread already, no need to rehash it. Suffice it to say there are a lot of people who aren't Tiger "hatahs", they just get sick of hearing about him when he is playing like shit and they fnd the fact he carefully branded himself as one thing when he was completely something else to be, well, less than optimal.

I think the jock sniffers come with popularity, as always. People have little knowledge and hop on the bandwagon.

You mean like a guy who grows up in Ohio rooting for scUM in the 90's and now owns a Lebron James Miami Heat jersey?

Not that we know a fucktard like that or anything. Just saying "if" such a fucktard existed would he be an example of the brain dead bandwagon hopping jock sniffer of which you speak?

Ehhh...this just isn't true. The tour survived, yes. Just like baseball is surviving...

But the tour and tournaments can't give out $1.2 winners purses long-term without Tiger. And the tour can't keep charging outrageous sponsorship fees without Tiger.

They need him.

Tiger has a few records too, ya know.

Was listening to some Hollywood commentator on the way to work Friday morning when the subject of pro athletes--specifically Cheetah--came up. This guy went off, saying he has never met a worse athlete personally in his life and called Cheetah a "deplorable human being". Evidentally Cheetah is even a bigger asshole away from the media that even the biggest "haters" think he is...

Quite simply, he is the Kobe Bryant of golf. He doesn't really give a shit what you think about him anymore, but he'll show his greatness once in a while in the last years he has left.

I still think he takes Jack's record at some point. Most likely seals the deal in his late 40's.

I still contend if Freddy can compete at 52, Tiger will be able to compete into his 50's as well.

If he doesn't completely change his swing years ago, he's probably well past Jack by now. Biggest mistake of his career.......*

*banging all those chicks while married not withstanding.

Apply a napkin to the tip of your penis immediately, because it has to be dripping BIG TIME to make a comment like that. "Well Past Jack" by now? Are you serious, really?

No "Peace" in this thread:confused:
