Ti-vo conflicts...who wins/loses

JoJaBuckeye

First we take Michigan--then the whole world!
Wifey's shows suffer the most. Days of our Lives, Dr. Phil, American Idol, and Oprah are the first to go if there's a conflict.

Then the grandkids' cartoons: Spongebob, Tom & Jerry.

The only show of mine that I've ditched so far is Numbers. It was a filler, and the low one on the totem pole at that. Also switched Bones to another TV so I could keep all the other favs on the living room tv.

BTW, anyone know why in the hell Direct TV switched ti-vo units from one that was straightforward, logical menu path, nice functions, etc., to that of a completely worthless goddamn piece of crap?

Do the Direct TV Tivo's have 1 or 2 tuners? If it's 1 like my Tivo I'd say you need an upgrade. My fiance and I only have 2 conflicts (she has at least 1 more between shows that she likes). Family Guy wins over Desperate Ho's for me, and Las Vegas wins over my favorite show Battlestar Galactica (which happens to be on again 2 hours later). Anything that I do miss I just download the next day.

Directv switched from Tivo to their own DVR. The change sucks. There are still two tuners, but the memory on the other tuner won't stay unless you're recording it. For instance you can't be watching one show and then when the commercial comes pause it, go to another show watch till commercial, pause it and continue. According to Directv, Tivo owns the patent to that technology and they no longer do business with them.

Thank you. Is there any way around the Direct TV piece of crap? Can I get the ti-vo unit and use it as before with my satellite? What would my out-of-pocket be?

All 3 of our receivers have 2 tuners, but I've heard of people being supplied with 1-tuner units. It's a configuration issues that just takes (or used to take) the flip of a switch on the unit itself.
