Tennessee was the first BCS champ, they opened their lucky season with a 1-point win at Syracuse, on a last-minute FG at the end of a drive kept alive by a shaky PI call. That helped keep tOSU out of the first BCS NC game.

Jim Brown was obviously the NFL career rushing leader from Syracuse, and he made the 44 and the 32 famous.
