Look for Coach Matta to lay it on heavy, we end up with Conley/Oden if he can sell them they are the foundation for the "rebirth" of the program. As he has done more than once, look for him to draw on history, the teams of the early 60s (maybe those late 30s-early 40s) teams. Time will tell but my optimism keeps creeping higher and higher.

Huge Recruiting Weekend For Matta

Look for Coach Matta to lay it on heavy, we end up with Conley/Oden if he can sell them they are the foundation for the "rebirth" of the program. As he has done more than once, look for him to draw on history, the teams of the early 60s (maybe those late 30s-early 40s) teams. Time will tell but my optimism keeps creeping higher and higher.
I have felt since the Wake visit that OSU has been the leader for Conley and Oden. Nothing has happened in the past few weeks to change my mind. I believe that they are leaning towards OSU and that Matta and staff will close the deal this weekend.

Good point about talking about the past tradition of OSU basketball......from the moment he took the job he talked about the rich history of OSU basketball, including inviting past players to his house last summer to encouraging them to be a bigger part of the program.

Its obvious to me that Matta has used the angle of putting OSU back in the national picture to these kids and they identify with it, but when they do verbal soon after their visit, the one factor of why they came to OSU will be because of Matta.

44820, i think you hit the nail on the head. matta has given this team an identity. i think that is something that was sorely missing during the OB days. i loved OB, but if someone were to ask you what the defining moment or trait of his teams were, i think you would be hard pressed to find a definitive answer. but with matta, it appears as though he is already giving this team a national identity as a young, up and coming club, that plays an exciting style of uptempo basketball. if we were in the acc, i don't think this would be as unique. but in big 10 country, i think thad (and coach self, as another example) has done an excellent job of seperating this team from the rest of pack in the big 10. i fully expect that momentum to carry over to verbals from conley and oden this weekend, or shortly thereafter...

wadc....you are right about Matta changing the perception of OSU basketball, he wants to bring that wide open style of basketball to the Big 10 and with the players he is recruiting, it will happen sooner than later.

I don't think Matta sleeps.
