True Madness Requires Significant Intelligence
Figure I would add to this thread and not mess up the tropical storm thread as it looks like it will be busy. Hannah to the east coast but Ike and Josephine could be a Katrina / Rita repeat.
Anyone heard from Nutria? His town got the brunt of the storm. Baton Rouge got an ass kicking also. If Gator is in Atlanta, Hannah may give him a second dose. He should be allowed back Thursday at noon. My GF is anxious to get back in town. With no electricity, fuel, water or food I asked her why. Human nature I guess.
Here, Mandeville, we had high winds and rain. I lost power around noon on Monday and just got it back. One maple tree snapped in half. These storms are rough on my trees. New roof courtesy of Katrina held up fine. Most evacuated, my neighborhood was a ghost town. I only heard a few other generators last night.Tornadoes are still popping up and the rivers are rising. You think you are safe and then you get delayed flooding due to cresting rivers from all the rain.
I had a generator and a window A/C unit so I was able to keep the fridge running and watch TV while being cool. Seemed odd to be drinking Abita Restoration Ale during another hurricane. Cell availability was good and you can always text message.
Hope to hear from the rest of the gulf coast crowd soon. My prayers are with Nutria and his friends, family and neighbors. I know what he is going through.
My fear is that we learned a lesson from Katrina but many, like me, won't go next time due to the lack of damage from Gustav. Hurricane evacuation fatigue makes you lazy and less likely to leave with each passing storm. It is a hell of a way to live.
