jack of all trades, master of none
Well, last night was the 3rd time in the 2 years since I have moved to Chicago that my car was broken into.

The first time was basically my fault... parked by my girlfriend's house to have dinner with her in the summer, with the window cracked... and someone reached in, unlocked it, and got my GPS. (It was early evening on a relatively busy street). (Insurance replaced the GPS)

The second time someone I guess on a hunch smashed my passenger side window and got into my glove box and got the GPS (which I rarely left in the car, because of the first one)... Insurance replaced that one too. I did give the new one to the GF, cuz I didn't use it too much, so it is no longer in my car.

Now this morning, I walk out to my car, and on the front seat is all the stuff from my center console... CDs, paper, pens, etc... so I thought, I don't remember doing that before I left. But my front windows were in tact... did I leave the damn car unlocked?! nope...

they broke the damn vent window in the back passenger side (which doesn't open)... and is going to be a hastle to replace (i.e. the mobile unit said they can't do it, so I have to take it in). They got my 60GB iPod, which I don't really use that much (hence it was in my car, iphone replaced that)... didn't take the sirius radio (but I guess they couldn't do much with that, since once you report it stolen its worthless); I had some real nice golf shoes in the trunk, but nothing else was stolen.

I think I have been desensitized to it, because I'm not to upset. Just a goddamn hastle.

Oh yea... last fall (2007), I borrowed my GF's car, and parked it near the train station (next to a Jaguar/Volvo dealership, and the interstate), and it got stolen.... I have terrible luck.

Yeah, I do.

I keep breaking into these cars and all I ever get out of them are stupid GPS units and ipods. Shit, I already have an iPhone, what am I gonna do with this crap?

I'll sell you [strike]your[/strike] an ipod, redbenn. You interested?

anyone have similar experience they want to bitch about?

someone tried to break into my window in my apartment last year (below ground level) while I was sleeping in my bed

it woke me up even I was the only one home out of five roommates because the jackass tried to break the window directly above my bed, and the neighbor saw and confronted the guy also

the guy got caught and went to court, I got subpoenaed to be ready to go to court if they needed me but they never called so I don't really know what happened

but the moral of my story is that petty criminals that break into houses and cars are stupid, you should trick them by keeping a bear trap in your car or something, that would teach them

.

My Jeep got broken into over the summer and they broke the vent window to get in. The vent window is one of the most expensive to replace, at least on a jeep, with parts and labor they wanted over 200 dollars to fix it, so I went to a junkyard and fixed it myself.

yeah, the worst part is the ipod isn't "attached" to the car, so it's a renters insurance claim... they do cover GPS units... so it's 2 separate claims, instead of on 1, which wouldve got the window replaced and a new ipod for 1 deductible

Don't worry. I'm sure the boys down at the crime lab will come up with something. I hear they got 'em working in teams.

I have a question. Why the [censored] do you have a car? I replaced mine with a zip car membership almost three years ago and have never looked back.

You live in one of the two cities in America where it's not only feasible to not have a car but actually easier.

if i didn't work up in deerfield, then i would've got rid of the car, i hate taking the metra (it's harder to get to, and doesnt really save that much money, and normally takes longer to get to work)... and really the car isn't worth much as it is an old jeep w/ lots of miles... but yeah, it is stupid to have one.
