The Very Mythical Bowl Conference Championship (BCS)

Dryden - excellent write-up

Also of interest is the following about conferences putting 2 teams at a time into those BCS games. You put part of that (the Big 10 record) up in your post.
By my count - years in which a conference places 2 teams (one automatic, one at-large or other "automatic").

Big 10 - 5
Big 12 - 3
SEC - 3
PAC 10 -2

That's a bunch of double-dip pay-days for the Big 10.

I'll be updating the table early this evening - anyone know how to make this thing sortable?

Next to last update of the table- Penn State pulling out the game in 3 OT helps boost the Big 10 total.

Of course, the conference with the current best winning percentage (The traditonal measure of the Conference Bowl Championsip) is the PAC 10 - though this may change by the end of the evening.

Final Data in Top Post

Well its over and done.

Based on their points total the Big 12 finishes dead even with the Big 10 in the final points tally, though the Big 10 does it with one fewer game with which to play - courtesy of the points system that favors wins in BCS games.

The full "working" is shown in my final update to those tables. LINK
