The Stigma of Jersey #13

ScriptOhio

Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
I noticed that you can buy an Ohio State replicia game jersey #47 for $150.00

http://www.collegegear.com/sf/stores/1072/p-77000.shtml

A similiar (i. e. red/nylon) jersey with #13 is on sale for $19.98

http://www.collegegear.com/sf/stores/1072/p-43996.shtml

It might be a good deal for $19.98, maybe someone good (like M. Wells) will get #13 for 2005.

Several players (in addition to you know who) have worn the number over the last 30 or so years:

1986 - 88 Scott Powell
1973 - Morris Bradshall
1978-80 - Vlade Jankievski
1990-93 Chico Nelson
1993 - Matt Jacobs
1994-98 - Damon Moore
2000 - Chad Chicchio
2001 - Jim Otis
2001-04 - Harlan Jacobs

The #47 jersey you linked is an authentic, not a replica. The #13 jersey you linked is a replica, not an authentic. However, the 60% price reduction for it ($19.95 instead of $50) is still quite a bargain.

I guess #35 was a truely great number!!!

1967 - 69 - James L. Otis

Unfortunately he never did win the Heisman. However his teammate Rex Kern did finish 3rd in the voting in 1969 (and 5th in 1970).

Wasn't his last name Caccio? Could be wrong but I thought it was spelled like that.

I have one of the authentic number 13 jerseys and I wear it all the time. No name on the back. One of the guys at the store where I bought it told me after the Clarret fiascon many people returned the jerseys they bought. I kept mine. Like a couple people have pointed out all ready Harlen Jacobs wore it as well. There is no stigma attached to it from my viewpoint and I'm sure others will wear the number in the future. Of course, if I had been a bit more patient and waited I could have gotten an authentic #47 jersey or one or two others that I think are available now. I may still end up getting the #47 jersey. Patience is sometimes not one of my virtues.

I don't think of MoC when I see the #13 jersey any longer, and eventually some other stud will come along and give the number new meaning.

... now what I want, is a #7 jersey will just the letter 'G', since I can't decide between Greene, Gordon, Galloway, Germaine, Gamble, or Ginn.

I still think of MoC when I see 13. But I'm sure it won't take long to get that out of my mind. I thought 7 would always meen Sonny Gordon. Then it would always mean Vinnie Clark. Eventually it would mean all those G's you named. But now, I only think Ginn.

Oddly enough, though I wasn't even alive when he played, 45 means Griffin. It's weird because I was a HUGE fan of the Big Kat.

Don't you remember that he redshirted for 16 years. Which was then a NCAA record!!!

It should have been 1986 - 88 Scott Powell
