The Scariness of the Gators

That is nuts. Is there a reason for it? Maybe the loser of that game can win the rest of its games and have enough time to make up for it and make it to a BCS game?
Hey, that's the reason that Miami-FSU open against each other again,

As much as I think Urban will make a huge impact at Fla... it may not be this season.

First... Even as early as he got hired, you still only have x amount of Practice time... When you have a coaching change like that, it take a certain amount of time to get your message through to the players... we're also assuming that they have the right depth and personnel in place and that Urban can get them evaluated even if they do. The real question of how good Florida/Meyer will be is going to be whether they improve throught the season.

Second... We haven't seen the Urban Option against SEC level athletes... so not only will the players have to adjust, but Urban will too. He'll be able to, no question, but, the level of coaching and player he's playing against every week just went up a couple of notches. (Yes he has SEC Players, too... but once again, they have to be firing on all cylinders...)

Third-- The D is soft... you just don't win every game, especially not in the SEC or Big Ten or whatever without being one of the toughest (Physically and Mentally) teams on the block. That's why we got our shit cleaned by Iowa... they weren't especially more talented, they just kicked our ass on that particular day...

Bottom line is that Urban and the Gators have a bunch of learning processes to go through, and its going to be hard for them to have them all learned in one year.

Wouldn't be surprised, especially from Tennessee's standpoint. They play Florida, Georgia, and Auburn all early in the season, and finish off the season with Kentucky and Vanderbilt, I'm sure that at least has something to do with being able to make up ground if they lose one or two of those early games to big name schools.

How much does influence does Tennessee have over their in-conference schedule? I've always believed that the conferences, themselves, create the schedules, using a couple of built-in criteria (OSU-Michigan is always the last game, etc.). Can Tennessee tell the SEC, "Yo, Big Momma! We want to play Geoh'ja the week of the 23rd, and Floh'da the week of the 16th. You get that right, y'hear?"

The conference makes the schedule, trying to allow for what the different schools prefer, and to respect tradition. But teams don't always get exactly what they want. The Vols traditionally play Bama on the 'Third Saturday in October', although that game's been on the 4th Saturday in October the last 3 years.

Florida will once again be the highest-ranked 4-loss team at the end of the year.

Tennessee will win the SEC (and believe me, I can't stand TN) with one loss.

Give Urban a couple of years to recruit and install his system, then start talking NC maybe.
