Sears, you knew about the date that the Red Sox' retired numbers used to translate into before they were rearranged, right?
BY PURE COINCIDENCE, the Sox retired Williams, Cronin, Doerr, and Yaz' numbers. They would appear (in order) on the Fenway facade as 9, then 4, then 1, then 8. 9-4-18: September 4, 1918. Game 1 of the 1918 World Series (it was moved up from Oct. b/c of WW1). Now that's freeky.
The Sox changed the order to appear as 1, 4, 8, & 9 to "Reverse the Curse."
