word is that talks will begin this week at the gm meetings about college kids. pre lockout 8-10 kids left school early, last year 30. the wcha, ccha and east will all have representatives to talk about this with nhl gms. nothing will be resolved, the issue is out there now. what will the nhl do? will it be something like in jrs where kids if they leave the system either have to play in the nhl or be sent back to jrs, not ahl/echl eligle. thats the issue, kids leaving school and ending up in the low level leagues when they could be developed in ncaas.

Wow.

They need to get ESPN back with the NHL. I've heard they're interested. After the SCF's who wouldn't be? Additional tv revenue would always be welcomed.

The salary escalation can't continue. IMO ,$57M is way too high.

it sure can, for detroit, leafs, aves, rangers, bruins, habs, etc. its what lead to the lockout. look at the 90s sure the big rivlaries were breat but it ended up in the lockout. hockey cant get to big for its britches.

revenue sharing is a joke in hockey imo...

I all so think it would be good to get back with ESPN, but it would help if NBC aired more then one game a week.

It would be great if they would have a weekly Sunday night game showcasing the best players. Of course, it would have to be an 8pm EST start.

Report: NHL wants to be in Europe in 10 years

The Globe and Mail reports that the National Hockey League is aiming to have teams based in Europe within the next 10 years.
"As time goes on, you'll see us making increasing movement into Europe," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told the newspaper. "Certainly, it's a possibility that within 10 years time we will be playing games there."
The league has already experimented with games overseas with exhibition games in Europe in the early 1990s and regular season games in Japan prior to the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano. The Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings played in London, England last year, while four more teams - the New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins - will play in Europe next month.
Daly added that while further exposure in Europe was a possibility, there are no guarantees of it happening. "I think it's a long way between here and there," he told the Globe and Mail. "And I think all the pieces have to continue to line up in order for that to happen. So, certainly, we would hope that would be the case. But I can't say with any degree of certainty at this point."
NHL expansion into Europe has been talked about for years and has has been hot debate among the league's executives.

I'm not sure how feasible that will be. That has to be way down the road. Just throw the Euro's a bone by playing more games there each year, but to have a full-time team there? Nah.

Let's get it right here, first. I agree that they should look to Canada first, including bringing back the J-E-T-S, jets, jets, jets to Winnipeg. I don't understand the infatuation with Hamilton considering the proximity to Toronto and Buffalo. Three teams in an 88 mile radius is dumb, especially in Canada. Hell, it sure doesn't work with the Rangers, Isles and Devils. Now, London is a bit further away and is approximately the same size as Hamilton, so it may be a better choice. I wonder it they just have to get a team for Mr Blackberry, Jim Balsille?
