If I am not mistaken, the calendar started with year 1 which would mean that you would have to go through year 10 to have a full decade, and so on and so forth.
That is a strict interpretation. As in strictly correct.

But this is one of those situations in which common usage trumps strict usage again and again. The common definition of a prior decade - the 90's, the 80's and the like always refers to years 90 through 99 and 80 through 89.

Thus the past immediate decade ought to be the Aughts.

Saw 9/11 from an almost completely unique standpoint
Acquired a 2nd X wife
Went back to Iraq (bit of a misnomer since I was in Kuwait last time around)
Watched another shuttle go down in flames

Began sprouting grey hairs
Informed by doctors on two occasions had less than a year to live....second time about a year ago
Reconnected with a lost love
Moved to a foreign country
Created two perfect beings to carry on

Or am I to assume this list is not in chronological order?

I took it to mean he won a gunfight with his grandpa.

Fear The Indestructible Muck!!

The truth is a bit more prosaic...

I was on watch at Ft. Meade when the first plane hit the building....and was one of the skeleton crew of watch standers who stayed on duty when the NSA building was evacuated.
