Without insulting anyone in particular, I feel that train of thought is shallow and undistinguished.

I beg to differ... beating Indiana every year doesn't bring a whole lot of excitement. Should scUM become that, The Game loses out and so does the Big Ten.

Well, when Indiana ever gets good enough to:

• Go undefeated against us in 15 straight games
• Have a 16-game lead in the overall series
• Have a top-notch academic institution
• Have many of the top prospects in the country want to play for them
• Fill up their shitbowl stadium, let alone 111,000+, every game

Then maybe beating Indiana would be exciting as beating Michigan.

And even if Michigan should ever become as shitty as Indiana is now, then any time you start losing interest in the game:

• Rewatch HBO's The Rivalry
• Remember 1969
• Remember 86-0
• Remember Howard's Heisman pose
• Remember Tim Beyatch-ma-fuckah

I guarantee you'll gain interest back real quick...

My only point is- if we beat them 10 years straight, it becomes Illinois until this year. I'm never tired of beating scUM, but I think it's better for the game for them to be the scUM we all know and love.

I think it's better to beat those douchebags when they think they may have a fucking chance. It's like beating up a grown man or beating up a tenth grader, a grown man thinks he can win, that makes it so much more satisfying.

Sorry, but wrong, my friend. The bitterness of the history of The Rivalry will never allow Michigan to sink to the depths of a program like Illinois regardless of how many times we beat them. Guess what? Even if we beat them 10 straight more times, they'll still be six games up on us all-time...and trust me, they won't let us forget that fact.

Point taken. I understand/respect your (among many other's) POV, however I think if scUM becomes Kent Read, Kent Write, Kent State- it gets old. That's just me, though. It's probably irrelevant, as scUM has too much pride and tradition to succumb to that sort of mediocrity.

Brent Musberger made excuses the whole game for scUM. I do like BM (really, that's your initials?), but he kept talking about how Desmond Howard said Henne was "grimacing in pain" and how Hart had his ankle turned in the third quarter. Addressing the two things- if Henne wasn't ready to go, why did he start? And why did he start "grimacing" only in the third down 14-3? Second, I watched the play Hart supposedly hurt his ankle (where it showed him limping off the field) several times. I still cannot see how his ankle was twisted in any way. Now, I respect Mike Hart as a player. He shows tons of fire and grit despite his erratic mouth. But why did their injuries start to arise significantly, down 14-3? Lack of "Hart"/heart? Or a reason to explain the on-field troubles? Unfortunate considering the rivalry and what the two teams mean to each other and to the game.

Even if that were the case, how is brent supposed to tell from the booth? Really.. and I'm not a BM fan.. i did like the neutral shirt this year

I feel the rivalry has lost a bit of its luster due to the lopsided record of late, and hope that scUM can restore the rivalry with the hiring of a new coach who can bring class and tradition back to the program. This is the greatest rivalry in all of sports, and I appreciate it as such.

I don't think it's lost luster.. I feel it's bringing it back. Last year it was #1 v. #2.. had a shitload of "luster"

One more comment on point- our DTs played very well. It enabled our defense significantly. Their best game all year of any importance.

I hope I'm misunderstanding you, because it doesn't seem to make any sense. But are you saying that you want Michigan to beat Ohio State every now and then so that it becomes interesting? I don't want to make it appear that I'm calling your fanhood into question, but I don't think I've ever heard of an Ohio State fan want Michigan to beat Ohio State - EVER. I can't think of a good reason to root for Michigan over Ohio State, and preserving the strength of The Game does not count as a "good reason."

As OC said, don't you ever get tired of kicking the shit out of your little brother and you just wish he'd hit puberty so it became a challenge at some point? tOSU played far less than perfect on Saturday and still emerged with a convincing victory in Ann Arbor (despite the 14-3 score, I never felt a sense of urgency following the first Q). How does that turn me into a Michigan fan? Unreasonable.

Um. Wow. That's like watching a professional racquetball player when I'm too drunk to tie my own shoes. I have no idea where the ball is. But I still know enough to cover my crotch, in case it comes my way.

I never said anything about you being a Michigan fan. I even said that I wasn't questioning your Ohio State fan-ness. I also said that there's a chance I didn't understand you. (And many people here will tell you that it's not surprising that Zurp doesn't understand something.)

So, with the risk of getting more of your disappointed faces in my direction, let me at least address the part of your post that I understand slightly. It may get boring beating up on Michigan from time to time. But that doesn't mean you want them to win, to make things interesting. Especially, since they won't stop running their mouths. If Ohio State wins 16 more games (or whatever the number is that makes the all-time series even), and then Michigan wins one, you better believe that their mouths are going to be flapping as wildly as ever. I want Ohio State to beat Michigan every time. I want Ohio State to beat Indiana every time. And Illinois and Iowa and Penn State. If it's not as interesting simply because they happen to win every time, it's still much more interesting than when they lose.
