Maybe Matta didn't want to be in a box.

He doesn't strike me as a guy who would go out of his way to be pampered.

I could be wrong on this, but for some reason I recall this question being raised before and think the answer is schools are allowed to hand out clothing (cold weather players under dressed) to players before the games that they have to return afterwards.
