Game Thread THE GAME, 11/26/16, 12pm ET, ABC

WOW! What a game ... to win. 3yardsandacloud(of dust) is very happy! That was an old school, grind it out, play the full 60 minutes, (insert your cliche here), type of game. I've read a lot of this thread, but not all. So apologies if someone has already made the point. To me, this was a field position game pure and simple ... and we almost lost this game to Michigan's best player ... their punter/kicker. I hope that Kenny Allen is out of eligibility. He almost beat us all by himself. Tressel would love that kid.

7 Punts for 332 yards, 47.4 average, 67 long and 5 inside the 20
2 Field Goal attempts, 28 and 37 yards, both good
4 Kickoffs, all touchbacks

In case you're wondering, I think that we were put in terrible position time and again, against a great D, and our staff did the right thing by making sure we didn't lose the game before we had a chance to win it (fake punt being the one call that doesn't fit).

Starting field position for Ohio State - 1st Half:
OS 8 - 72 yards - miss FG
OS 11 - 0 yards - punt
OS 25 - -5 yards - punt
OS 4 - 17 yards - punt
OS 20 - 14 yards - punt
Interception Return for TD
OS 25 - (-2) yards - End of Half

So the best starting spot was after watching a kickoff go out of the end zone ... twice

Starting field position for Ohio State - 2nd Half:
OS 25 - 13 yards - interception
OS 2 - 20 yards - downs (fake punt)
OS 25 - 35 yards - punt
*Up to this point our average starting field position was our own 16 yard line!!!*
M 13 - 13 yards - TD (we started on the M 13 due to interception)
OS 16 - (-1) yard - punt
OS 37 - 61 yards - miss FG
OS 18 - 77 yards - FG

Are you kidding me? All but 2 drives started at our 25 or worse? Against the 2nd ranked D in the country? Kudos to the team and coaches for not losing their heads, for continuing to play, and making us proud once again! Go Bucks!

"Get in line if you've never beaten Ohio State" : from : Hahahaharbaugh ‏@THE_OSU Oct 1

The streamer at the bottom of that tv screencap made me think of Tank Whaley kicking Michigan's ass in, what was it, 2008?

Similarly I was sitting next to a Bama fan and when Durban misssd the second field goal she says how we're gonna hate him and he's gonna get so many threats. And I said no, that's the difference between us and you.
Didn't Ryan Hamby supposedly get a number of threatening e-mails after the 2005 game against Texas?

Oh sweet Jesus. I live up in the mitten and these SCum fans are the most pathetic whiny POS on the face of the planet.
Your coach loses his shite and costs you 15 yards in the 4th quarter. Your QB throws a pick 6, your QB fumbles on the 1 yard line and all they can whine about is an OT 4th down spot where every replay I have watched seems to obviously show that the ball gets to the 15....and hence a 1st down.

This is why I hate that team and the whole fan base in general.

Own it. Your squad dump it. 5 yards in the whole 4th quarter and you are pointing at the refs???? Pathetic. As some of you remember I am a MSU fan and honestly watching that game made me laugh. My Spartans completely dumped it this year. I am not even sure I can put to words how painful this year has been. I do feel like my squad had made a 10 year deal with the devil and it is now up.

Thank you for beating them again. And good luck I put your chances at 50/50 at getting in to the NC playoff.

You gotta figure these are locks:
SEC Champ (Assuming Bama)
ACC Champ (if Clemson)
PAC 12 Champ (if Washington)

And then they gotta take OSU over PSU or Wisky. I know 1 loss verse 2 loses.....ect. But at the end of the day the championship has to mean something. I am just not seeing how they take OSU over the B10 Champ. It is a bad bad draw. OSU needs some chaos to help their cause. At least one upset in the PAC 12 or ACC Champ games and they are then a lock. But if those games go chalk then it is gonna get really really tight.

What is sad is I think OSU is one of the few teams in the nation that can hang with Bama. Give them another month to get healthy and coached up and who else has the athletes across the board that OSU has?

Washington is pretty far from a lock.

OSU will be in, have faith.

UW or Clemson lose and B1G will get 2 in.

Pat Elflein Knew Winning TD Was Happening Before the Ball Was Ever Snapped

CurtisSamuelUMTD.jpg

Don't call Ohio State's Pat Elflein a visionary or a soothsayer or a diviner. He's just a center. A center who occasionally possesses the ability to see the future.

In his five seasons as a Buckeye, Elflein has seen an awful lot. Mostly just in the present tense, however.

He was thrust into this game as a redshirt freshman in 2013 following an ejection of starter Marcus Hall. In 2014, he matured and played well enough to be named a First-Team All-B1G selection. Last year as a redshirt junior he earned Second-Team All-America accolades. This year he moved to center and has spent his time learning the lay of this offense like ground-penetrating radar through constant study and analysis.

As the center, he is the one making the calls at the line, telling his linemates what to do and where to go. He's basically the quarterback of the offense, aside from the actual quarterback, of course.

Elflein looks at the situation for every call when it comes in, as well as the defensive alignment, and then he puts the offensive line in the best position to succeed. On Curtis Samuel's game-winning 15-yard touchdown against Michigan on Saturday, he did just that.

In fact, once the call came in -- "29 Lead" -- and Elflein saw Michigan's alignment, he knew right then that the game was over.

Is he telepathic? No. He's telepatrick.

"I saw the defense and how it was set and I knew what play was called and I knew before we ran the play it was going in," he said after the game. "So it was just a crazy feeling. I’ve never felt anything like that. They stacked the other side of the formation and we ran to the left."

It was the perfect call at the perfect time against the perfect defense, and there were no doubts that Samuel was going to take this carry home.

But did Elflein really know the game was over before the ball was even snapped?

"Yes," right guard Billy Price said, confirming the ESP (Elflein Snap Premonition). "Pat did a lot of extra studying. He’s very, very well prepared as he goes into every single game. He made a call for us as a whole offensive line, when it’s one cohesive unit, and all of a sudden the next thing you know the receiver gets a block on the outside and Curtis is in the end zone."

Looking for an unsung hero? Got you covered.

TwoTypesofPeople.jpg

Has the glow worn off yet?

Somehow I doubt it.

Saturday’s win over Michigan will leave Buckeye Nation smiling until the next time the Buckeyes fail to pick up a third and short, but we know that won’t be for a while, so the Buckeye State is still beaming.

There are tons of back stories to The Game, from The Spot to Jim Harbaugh’s incredibly poor behavior in the postgame interviews, but your grin probably says as much as anything. That was a really, really good day for OSU fans.

One thing we haven’t seen discussed was something that was mentioned by Buckeye linebacker Chris Worley after the game. It was the contributions made to the win by players who didn’t get a single mention on Saturday, or since Saturday.

“For a lot of guys who don’t play, they don’t necessarily see the rewards come out on the field. You have young guys who may be on scout team who maybe don’t really understand the impact that they had in this game,” Worley said.

So now you’re thinking this is another boring walk-on story or special teamer story, and for crying out loud who wants to scroll down for more of this.

Give it a chance.

Worley talked about a specific player on the scout team, and what that player meant to OSU’s preparations.

Remember when OSU had to prepare for Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong? The OSU coaching staff called on defensive back Eric Glover-Williams to play that role for the scout team, and play it he did. Turns out the OSU coaching staff called on him again this week, and once again he more-than answered the bell.

“I look at a guy like EGW, and what went on in his mind throughout the week," Worley said. "He had to put on the number five and be Jabril Peppers on the scout team offense and he’s a heck of a player.
