Evil Ryan needs to channel Evil Woody. If you have a chance to score with 1:30 left, then you do what Woody would do, even if you're 42 points ahead.
I was just thinking the same thing. Obviously we just want a W but if there is the slightest bit of blood in the water, I don't want the foot odor the gas. I want it on the floor. I have no doubts Day will not be foolish about it and jeopardize a win if we get to that point, but I also have no doubt that he will channel his inner Woody Hayes if he gets a chance to go ape shit on them.

As The Game approaches, I think back on the unique history of The Game growing up in Ohio. I remember getting detention in 4th grade for pissing on the state of *ichigan on the US flag painted on our playground and my teacher giving me "detention", only to serve it with me and bringing chocolate Buckeyes and soda to show he has to feign punishment, but he let me know privately that he supported it. I remember my brother trying to be rebellious and wearing a Looney Tunes sweater where the characters were wearing *ichigan gear, and my dad throwing it away and buying the same one in the Ohio State version to make sure we didn't have a Benedict Arnold in our house.

I remember the first Natty of my lifetime in '02 and interviewing JT on a kids show shortly after that. I asked him how many days until we beat *ichigan and he explained it was a privilege to beat them that had to be earned, but gave the number of days until we played them. He was off by a day according to the count down clock in the WHAC and made me reshoot that part to correct it. I got camp MVP a year later and he asked me how many days until we beat *ichigan when I went up to get the award, and when I got it right he beamed with pride and jokingly told me get the heck out of his sight for one upping him.

I remember my dad promising me from an early age that on my senior year of HS we would go to The Game. We didn't have a ton of money and of course tickets were outrageously expensive. I wanted to go so bad growing up and was counting down each year until my graduating year in '07, which was the '06 season. He bought us tickets not knowing it would be a matchup of the undefeateds ranked #1 and #2. When The Game got there, all week ESPN had a countdown to the kickoff and I was the envy of my high school for getting to go. On game day, we drove from Dayton to Columbus and got there very early so we could be there for College Game Day. We got there around 730am thinking we would beat traffic in and still had to park way out in Upper Arlington. It was an experience of a lifetime that neither of us will forget and an absolutely foundational memory with my dad that saved up to get us those tickets. To make that season even cooler leading up to The Game, I got to go to almost every home game and the Purdue game for Holy Buckeye front row seats (thanks to my dad's boss who had season tickets).

After the dominance that painted my undergraduate years in Columbus, I started hearing this ridiculous notion that The Game had lost its importance because of how one-sided it was getting. Having the above upbringing and knowing OSU history for context, I corrected every dumbass who suggested this because I knew there would be swings in the rivalry.

Fast forward to *ichigan starting to return the swing and their cheating scandal coming to light. I felt offended that anyone who associated themselves with the rivalry would cheat to win, and knew justice would be served on the field after they canceled due to fake covid reasons knowing we would pummel them. That didn't happen and we were simply handed a reminder that cheaters do prosper sometimes. Lately the losses have just been inexplicable and Day still has a major grade that is TBD in the very impractical wins and loss column in The Game.

Today is not important only to this season of course, but it is yet another shot at an undefeated season that could be spoiled if we don't play our best game. We all know the drill there and even with a decent chance of still making the CFP if we lose, this is a season-defining game in my eyes. A chance to be undefeated and beat ttun is a rare opportunity in the scope of a lifetime, and we have to capitalize on it. I want to beat the ever living piss out of them to pay back recent years of falling short, but winning in any way to get a W on the board and right the ship has to be the objective. It does not have to be pretty. Just execute on offense and take points where we can get them, and keep playing suffocating defense focused on stopping the run. Focus on each play and don't fall into petty traps to fight and get into scenarios where we get players kicked out, let them play that game if they want to. Just win with whatever it takes and leave absolutely nothing on the field. *uck *ichigan and I'll see you boys on the other side.
