I'm not really seeing why we need to worry about what anyone said in the past or what it's going to accomplish posting all of those quotes regarding the Miami team. Do you think that if we remain humble that Ohio State has a better chance of winning? I certainly don't. What is going to happen if I lean out my window and start screaming that Florida is going to lose 35 - 0, does that mean that if by some chance Florida wins I had something to do with it?
It just seems a bit silly to worry about what people will say on a message board, there are some fans that will be brash and have a great amount of confidence in their team, there will be other fans that are apologists for the first group of fans and say things like your post and then there will just be level headed fans who realize that this is a game that isn't being played by the people posting on the message boards so why can't we let it be the entertainment that it's supposed to be. I'm sure I'll get dinged or whatever you call it on this message board and I really couldn't care less, this place while better than bucknuts by far is just full of cliques and if someone disagrees with one of the bigshots like you OSUGRAD then they get a lot of grief.
However, just because you are well respected on this board doesn't mean that you're always right and I truly believe that you're off base on the point you were making this morning. I just cannot fathom how or why it matters what we say, if someone thinks Florida is terrible then they should feel free to post it, the Miami team has nothing to do with Ohio State, this is not a fairy tale where things work out like they would in a childrens movie. Ohio State won ugly in 2002 they were underdogs and they offed the giant Miami team so of course here in 2006 Ohio State is the favorite and Florida has been winning ugly so Florida is going to win in overtime just like Ohio State did? I really have never been a part of anything that's worked out like that.

...and out of leftfield comes Edison.

Who said you cannot disagree?

Dang, chill out chief.

My point is simply that overconfidence breeds complacency and complacency breeds disaster...just like Miami experienced.

Sorry you took such a degree of offense to a simple post...I'd suggest meds and some self-esteem.

Ohio State won ugly in 2002 they were underdogs and they offed the giant Miami team so of course here in 2006 Ohio State is the favorite and Florida has been winning ugly so Florida is going to win in overtime just like Ohio State did? I think you assumed a bit much here...but don't let logic get in the way of your insecurity.

Ummm.... Let me get this straight. You have one post on this board and a join date of October 2006, and somehow you're in a position to declare cliques etc? Consider me unimpressed.

To the more substantive issue - of course it doesn't matter what people say on message boards, nor does it matter what the media says, etc. Grad's point, I think, is that any team which made the title game is worthy of respect. Do you disagree with that point? Do you think we - as fans - shouldnt' respect the Gators? If so, maybe this isn't the board for you.

Before you get blasted - and you likely will - I think you make a fair point.

I agree with the sentiment of Grad's post not because our overconfidence will influence the game outcome, but because it tempers the attitude of posts on this board for their own sake.
It is easy to sit back and say 'damn, ain't we sompen' - 12 and 0 and #1 all year. But talking smack (not that you suggested that) and suggesting we will win by 35 is not warranted. Florida is a good team and we do have to show up and play. I would rather the tone of this board reflect that and that it be measured and respectful.

I don't think he was saying we will lose if we are over confident, but rather that overconfidence pays no dividends.

Represent the University with class...be confident, but be humble.

Ridiculous post. Most of those quotes were by media members. I'm pretty fans since the beginning of time have acted like they expect to win and win big. :roll1:

Oh, no, Troy Smith is going to read this board and be overconfident!! :roll1:

You must not have been paying attention to much of what has been posted in the past 24 hours...the arrogance is embarrassing. A number of fans are dismissing this game as a done deal...that is exactly like Miami. Its not an "us against the world" storyline yet...however, that is exactly what I would like to avoid.

In the context of this board, I'd also hope for the same decent conversation amongst fanbases that we've enjoyed over the last few years...however, as we've multiplied numerous times in membership, I know it will not be as seamless as it has been.

Again, if you don't see a problem...cool. No harm, no foul.

Fans arrogant? really? :roll1:

Fans were arrogant back in 2002 when we were underdogs. And we were even more arrogant after the game even though it was close.

So says the so-called OSU expert (because you coach wow...high school... :slappy:) who last I heard was begging for a BCS ticket.

My wife will be on the keyboard giving her report from Glendale in about a month.
