so this is going to be a rant...

cost cutting was in place all year to reduce the amount my business unit needs to cut costs, recently this savings need has increased, the total amount, x dollars is now equal to about 2.5 employees. so i think weve got it close, and i come up with a brilliant idea, amongst others to reduce costs without having to "streamline the work force" (the recommended process). basically if we all downgrade our cars and some of us reduce car sizes, ive got a couple of people say ok, ford fusion yah ill do that, shit ive got three cars that are willing to go from full size to ford focuses. now i present this and im told i cant offer these reduced sizes cars cuz they arent in the fleet. im like hmm, i can go down the street and buy them cheaper than you can, now ive got people willing to reduce expenses and you say we cant buy these cars? wtf? we dont do the maintenance and service so whats the deal?

corp bs pisses me off sometimes.

does anyone have an alternative work schedule?

i have a single mom of two that ive let have an aws, she has to come in ever other week and the other week she has to be available for one hour a day everyday. she has picked 9-10am. her productivity since we started this june 1 has skyrocketed. i am considering this for two others. also i am thinkin about allowing people to work 4-10s as long as we are 50% staffed or better for all days. i decided to make all employees who meet certain work productivity and performance metrics eligible. july 1 they are eligible to start working 4-10s.

does anyone else have a system like this at work? do you like it? was it a good idea. my idea started with gas prices. im hoping that 20% less commute will mean more take home pay for my people. and i think i can drive better performance with the moves. everyone seem excited.

4-10's has been talked about a lot lately as a way to reduce fuel usage. That of course assumes that everyone will stay at home and watch Will & Grace reruns for three days every week, and not use that extra day to drive four times further to go camping/skiing/golfing/gambling etc...

Where I used to work, we always had half day Fridays. But never have done the 4-10's thing. It would rock though.
