The committee is going to punish this poor excuse for a football team

Perhaps this belongs in a different thread, because this one probably doesn’t deserve much traction…..but Is this the new college football?

I’ve been asking myself this question for the past few weeks? With all of the NIL and the Transfer Portal, have we turned college into a AAA version of the NFL where there’s enough parity now to have these “up/down” successive performances like we see on Sundays? I’m not suggesting that we lower our expectations of discipline and execution, but instead I’m suggesting the “Any given Saturday” idea of competition. I mean USC has a ton of talent. Their backs were against the wall so they had more motivation to win.

Going forward, 2 loss teams in the CFP will be normal (especially when we go to 24). Is College now going to be like the NFL where your fan bases have to be patient and not go DEFCON 5 after a loss that should have been a win?

I have been wondering the same kind of thing. Said it in a few NIL/CFP threads I think but to answer the question; yes- I think this is the new normal.

We, as fans, will need to learn to let go of the expectations for undefeated seasons and every game is life and death, worrying about trends that if not corrected will bite us etc etc etc. Nothing wrong with us being like that- it was the environment for our entire CFB watching lives.

Now, imo-and based on what we see already- it's going to be very NFL-ish (all pro sports leagues really) where the champ is crowned at the end of a playoff, not the regular season so as long as they don't prevent a playoff entry ticket- regular season losses are just an annoyance but should be kept in the context of impeding playoff positioning. Nothing more to it really.

It's 100% going to take 4 losses to keep Ohio State out of a 24 team playoff. The USC loss is a lot less meaningful if it was next year, but it's pretty back breaking in this years context. You win and you have a ton of wiggle room in these last games. But the loss makes the margain for error zero

Forget the committee..we have the inside track to one of the two B1G CG spots. Absolutely nothing has changed except we burned an out. We have none left assuming IU and UCLA win out.

Just consider the possibility that the Sayin injury is exactly what this team needed.
-we were unlikely to win a playoff level type game (or 4 of them) with him and his rattled-Sayin turnover issues.
-now we have time to take a kid that seems to have the ability and still get him up to speed
-the rest of the team (AND STAFF) just got a 4 am, cold bucket of water and banging trash can level wake up call. Your current output is comically insufficient.

They go two ways from here, like all people and organizations made up of people: grow from the stressor or die from the stressor.

I think the talent is there but a lot of coaches and players are going to have to step up. They talk alot about Brotherhood and compete this and that, well here you go. Fuck or walk gents.

This team hasn't been this far away from being a top team in years. Please take the homer blinders off.

The D is lost. The play calling is suspect. I will always be the fan ( since the 1960's ). The excuses are getting weaker by the minute. I do not believe they will win out and hope I'm wrong. If so, minor bowl game and Day sweating like a farmer in 110 degree heat.
