The BP Awards for 2006

Last year, the members of BuckeyePlanet voted for the top players at each position, plus the best overall player, and the best head coach. These awards, which were named after Buckeye greats, were like our versions of the Heisman, the Butkus, the Thorpe, etc. Last year's award winners are linked below:If you would like to vote this year, here are the simple rules:

  • Send your ballot to me, by PM, on or before Sunday, December 3rd.

  • For each award, please list your top six selections, in order from first to sixth. A first place vote will be worth six points, a second place vote five points, and so on. It is very important to list six players per award, as at least one of the winners from last year had fewer first place votes than the runner-up, but accummlated more overall points due to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. place votes.

  • You need not vote on every award. For example, some people may not want to waste time trying to figure out the nation's best punter, but really want to cast their votes for Troy for The Griffin and The K-K, and Pitcock for The Big Daddy. That's fine with me - I just ask that your partial ballot contain six players for each award on which you actually voted.

  • If you are a college football junkie, and/or having nothing better to do with your time, I would appreciate complete ballots so that we can name winners for The Nuuuuuuge, The Skladany, The Pancake, and some of the other awards which aren't too sexy (or which require too much research/game watching).

  • Please try to be reasonable with your selections. Obviously, voting for Troy is not a "homer" pick, but the idea is not to give every award to a Buckeye. Strive to be fair and objective.

  • Last year, we selected 50 people to cast ballots. This year, everyone can vote (primarily because I don't want to have to keep pestering people to get their ballots in on time). You don't need any special qualifications to vote, other than the ability to: (a) send me a PM (b) with your ballot (c) with six selections per award (d) on or before Sunday, December 3rd. It's that easy! Now go vote!

  • If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a PM.

PS - as an incentive for voting, you will receive "greenies" from me upon submitting your ballot.

This was great last year, thanks for bringing it back. A few suggestions, take them or leave them...

I'd vote for name changes to "The Carter" & "The Pace" (since the other dual name will soon be replaced with "The Troy").

Any chance we could add "The Teddy" for returner? Some AA lists have that designation.

Something that helped me out with this last year was links to some of the more-or-less "official" web sites of the individual awards. i.e. the Butkus Award had its web site, same with Lombardi, Bilitnekoff (sp?), etc. I checked out those web sites and did my investigating on the semi-finalists and finalists of those awards.

If someone who has some free time could link to those web sites, it would certainly help me, again, and maybe a couple of other blokes on BuckeyePlanet.

I don't think you can or should take Parker's name out of the OL award. He was just as good as Pace.
