The Big Ten Today (9/15)

Unfortunately, I think that the Big Ten will need a good bowl record (6 wins, at least) in order to get the country thinking that the Big Ten might not be a joke. And I say "unfortunately" because I hate that people use bowl records to determine quality of conferences.

Our next opponent just snapped Duke's 22-game-losing-streak.

OK I dare anyone to say THAT'S not embarassing for the conference :shake:

Fucking ugh.

Really at this point tOSU, PSU and Wisky are it for legit Top 25 in the B10 and all 3 have left themselves open to some legit doubt. Time will tell but this is the worst I've seen the B10 top to bottom in a very long time.

If you're embarrassed because you hold the B10 to some kind of lofty expectation, that's your own problem and you're free to wallow in misery over it if you so chose. I don't give a darn about chest-thumping conference bs, so I'll give you that angle.
If you're embarassed because the media has told you to, and convinced you the conference is total trash ... well, you'll have to excuse me while I snicker.
Two of the games being bandied about as dreadful embarrassments for the Big10 were close losses to... other BCS conference bottom feeders (Duke/NW) / rebuilding teams (ISU/Iowa). Oh no it's totally the end of the world!!!!!

As for PSU and Wiscy looking lackluster, they showed just how much that means in last years' bowl season. Twice Wiscy has played in the Capital One as an underdog and walked away with a win that wasn't as close as the scoreboards may indicate. PSU added to that last year. And all 3 of those were against gods gift to college football: the mighty SEC.
Anyone who actually watched the bowl games last year would also know the rest of the B10 showed up quite a bit more than anticipated as well. All except the big 2... which leads me to wonder:

Just how much of this is you guys projecting January 8th embarrassment on the rest of the B10, and how much of it actually has to do with the rest of the B10?

We're shallow at the top, but I think we've got a nice logjam of teams in the middle. Truth is, we won't know for sure until bowl season.
In the meantime, there is nothing so far to show we're doing any worse than B12, BE, ACC. Pointing to close games amongst the worst of the conferences doesn't mean much to me.

I wasn't going to even respond but I'm bored.

so you took the time to post about it

No one needs the media to tell them one of our premier teams losing to a 1-AA school is embarrassing. Glad to know you are around to keep the rest of us safe from our own ignorance.

I haven't used the word totally in a sentance like that since the early 80's and I'm not so sure I did it that often then. I notice you failed to mention that other little game that has everyone buzzing about the B10 being down this year.

Well considering there is an entire thread regarding the reality of the SEC vs B10 in Bowl games I think the rest of us seem to somehow, amazingly enough, gotten there in our own dimwitted way. You may have been too busy snickering to have read it.

Huh??

We have no elite teams yet although tOSU could get there. PSU and Wisky are the only other legit(top 25) teams in the conference this year.

Hopefully by Bowl season we make a respectable showing but right now there can be no arguing the B10 is weak. It has nothing to do with how anyone feels other conferences look right now.
