The Ann Arbor Experience

yeah, that sign was great. I was sad when I couldn't find my camera at the time.

I will say one positive thing about up north. No open container policy. There that's it. I could be holding my drink and yell "GO BUCKS" at the cops and all they could do was shake their heads. Now, if we can just get Holbrook fired so we can drink again on lane, I will be a happy man.

I've been to The Game at the Pig House many times, and have never had a bad experience. Most of my trips there were during Coop's years, so that may have softened the scUM fans a bit. :roll1:

Everyone that I've encountered there has really been just fine- good natured banter about OSU and scUM, good football talk about both teams, and general courtesy towards me and my friends. Of course there are a few assholes who shout things and yell a bit, but you'll see that anywhere.

For a bunch of weasels, they're not too bad to watch a game with...

When we were down two scores, some scUM fan yells at me......"have fun at the Alamo asshole!" Needless to say, I got the last laugh as we were singing Carmen Ohio, and he was leaving.....I said "Have fun in El Paso".......and laughed as hard as I could. :)

Other than the a-wipe that yelled that, the scUM fans were not bad at all. Im now 1-3 at the crap house.

I had a great experience for my first trip to AA.

We arrived to park at Pioneer High School in the RV lot around 5 on Friday. The line to get in the lot was already about 15 long. As we pulled up, one of the parking attendents alerted us that we could not park in the scUM RV parking lot. He said that the Buckeye RVs will have their own lot. As we were arguing with the old fucker, a fellow BPer (HawaiianBuckeye) jumped on our bus. He was raising holy hell about the parking situation. They guy's all energy.

We finally got situated in the Buckeye RV lot after about an hour. They put us on the other side of the school on a 2 lane turnaround. Bastards barely gave us enough room to get of our bus. We said to hell with it and just pulled on the grass. Every other RV behind us followed suit. Not much the Weasel parking attendents could do. They got nothing on scooter!!!!

We headed to the Holiday Inn on Friday to do some damage at Guy Hollerin's (the bar in the hotel). There was a good mix of Buckeyes and Weasels at the the bar when we got there. I saw 3 scUM fans there when the night ended and 2 of them played in the band. We absolutely took over their bar.

Finally made it back to the tailgate spot around 9:30 Saturday morning and tapped the kegs. By this time all the grassy areas we're filled in with mostly scUM tailgaters. 98% of them were great to talk with. It's nothing compared to Columbus, but it was cool. A lot more laid-back and family-oriented where we were.

After the game, the 98% figure turned into about 10%. I don't count verbal warfare. Everyone does that. That's not big deal. But when it turns physical, we gots problems. We had full beer cans chucked at us from cars on their way out of the lot. Had one scUM fan get out of his car and push my sister. I guess he didn't like it when she told him he wouldn't have very far too drive for their bowl game seeing how Detroit was so close. Had other objects thrown at our bus as we left.

I guess they don't like the idea of Gov.Tressel expanding Ohio's border 40 miles north.

I saw the 10 - 10 game in Ann Arbor (73?), sitting in the southwest corner and about 2/3rds of the way up. The place was packed and believe me, the entire crowd was into the game and screaming like crazy. I didn't feel threatened, no one tried to bust my chops for cheering for the Bucks, but I sure felt outnumbered. Watching Dennis Franklin get slam dunked was worth the trip, especially when we shut his trash talking mouth the next year in Columbus.

I also saw a game there as a photog, the year Woody broke the yard markers (see my avatar).

As a place to watch a game and get 100,000 fans in, I give it passing marks. There are no posts to obstruct your view, no one grabs pigeons and turns them loose on the folks sitting beneath the upper deck. Unlike Purdue's stadium, you can get to the bathroom and back to your seat in less than a quarter.
