I fucking hate big bugs - here are my two least favorite:

The Golden Digger wasp - these used to burrow in my yard back in Dublin... scariest shit was when I'd unknowingly go over one of their holes with the lawn mower and the fuckers would come after me

Here's one killing a katydid:

They're ~ about 2 inches long. Fuck.

The other is the Kingston Cockroach - ran into it when I lived in Kingston, Jamaica. I can't find a pic online, which makes me wonder if that's the real name. It was like a regular roach - which were HUGE down in Kingston - but it was much bigger and light brown with a darker brown marking on its shoulders. I mean, this thing was more than 2 1/2-3 inches long with some real size to it. You could see it walking up from far away. Fucking nasty.

My fav...............after watching one drag a tarantula 5x it's size back to it's nest.

The tarantula hawk is the common name for species in the genera Pepsis and Hemipepsis of the family Pompilidae, in the insect Order Hymenoptera. These two genera are limited to the Western Hemisphere, and tarantula hawks in the Eastern Hemisphere belong to different genera. These genera of wasps are called tarantula hawks due to their hunting of tarantulas as food for their larvae.
Tarantula hawks are up to two inches (50mm) long with a blue-black body and bright rust-colored wings. The bright rust coloring that they have on their wings is also known as aposematic coloring; this warns potential predators that they are dangerous. Their long legs end with hooked claws for grappling with their victims. The stinger of a female tarantula hawk can be up to 1/3 inch (7 mm) long, and delivers a sting which is rated amongst the most painful in the insect world.
They capture (often following a dramatic battle), sting and paralyze the spider. Next they either drag the spider back into her own burrow or transport their prey to a specially prepared nest where a single egg is laid on the spider?s body, and the entrance is covered. The wasp larva, upon hatching, begins to suck the juices from the still-living spider. After the larva grows a bit, the spider dies and the larva plunges into the spider's body and feeds, avoiding vital organs for as long as possible to keep it fresh.

That is one bad ass wasp!

Sure it wasn't one of those nasty Madagascaran (sp) Cockroaches? Like the ones you always see in movies?

I have a SERIOUS hatred for yellow jackets after the incident when i was 13...

We had a VERY large underground nest of them about 20 feet outside the backdoor to our house and it was getting later in the year so they started getting meaner. so we decide its time to eradicate them.. using primarily kerosene i believe we set a fire trap over their "backdoor" so that any that tried to escape were burned to a crisp, then poured a couple gallons of keroseine down the main entrance to poison them all (this is normally a very effective strategy) unfortunately these bastards appearantly had a THIRD door... and i was standing on it... i got about a dozen of em flying up my pant leg stinging their way up my calf to my thigh.. no one appearantly realized at first why i started shouting/stripping/sprinting into the house.. youd be surprised how fast you can get your pants off when you REALLY need to... i hate those bastards.:(

This bug is totally harmless but for it's look alone it is one of my top 5 WEIRDEST DAMN BUGS.

It's called a Jerusalem Cricket. The fact that you can see THRU their outer shell and that their head looks like a babyish face just FREAKS me out.

In the West Indies it is reported that one or another species of Giant Coackroach can be found.

This is a picture of one such from Wikipedia (PD reuse OK, originally uploaded to Wikipedia by User_davePape).
Is this what you saw in Kingston?
