Well, in accordance with the above, there was one unit that performed flawlessly. Not a route was missed, everyone played their position, and the overall performance was one of the best I've seen. Of course, I'm speaking of the TBDBITL. They're in mid-season form. The Buckeye football team, however, showed some problems to be fixed, but believe that Day & Co will fix. Very happy to see the D play well, the DBs in particular looked good - until they didn't (Tate td grab). DL seemed like they were 'told' not to get out of second gear (probably to not embarass the OL). No blitzs, twists, or high level DL play. JTT stood on the sideline, like Heracles chained, Sawyer was getting re-used to be on DL once more, and the young 'uns, Kenyatta, Amari, etc were getting in game-day experiences. OL was seeing vanilla attacks, and were doing a so-so job of handling. Our veteran guards probably going to have a talking-to with those guys, but all will be better for it in the end. Fry will earn his money this year, methinks. Don't know about the rest of you, but Gebbia looks like he could/should (?) start, as his 'command' of the O was not so bad, especially since he was teeing it up with the 2's. The two 5*s, CJ and Sony, looked like the real deal, will let smarter folk than me determine whether they were racing in the right directions or not. Overall, lots of good-to-great athletes on that field, so coaching will be critical. Was limited to camera angles, but wondered if Little Animal was coaching the LBs up during the game. QB play was encouraging, but guys, we've been spoiled over the last several years, so yeah, some throws were off, but more were on, so while there's no joy in Mudville, there's certainly no reason to jump off the ledge. Can't wait for DiNardo and group sit down and analyze. Go Bucks!

Against a defense that has some serious returning talent.

I'm honestly not sure what people expected to see out there yesterday? I'd a glorified 3/4 scrimmage. A chance to stretch your legs without meaningful contact and work on absorbing more of the playbook. Glad to see the young Bucks getting snaps and acclimated early and players stick to conditioning in summer before fall camp kicks in full go.

And while setting attendance records is nice, I've still yet to see anything top the hype from the April 2006, 2009 and 2012 versions.

And...we're off. Yeah, last year in Spring Game, the O decimated the D. But the O had more returning starters/better cohesion. This year, the roles were reversed. Personally, am glad to see the D look so good, so early. Assuming the Buckeyes 'lost' last year because of the D (first year implementation of Knowles system?), we've seen how well tOSU's O performs, so not a large stretch to envision the O getting significantly better. Yeah, also know that until there's some live action by an opforce, stunts, twists, blitzes, etc. nothing is really known. However, believe that the season has promise. Did enjoy the two Ohio 5*s looking very very good. We'll see what shakes out with the transfer portal, and when (not if) Day & Co plucks an answer therein. Go Bucks!

For the first time in six years, Ohio State is returning the same defensive system for a second year in a row with defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said throughout the Buckeyes’ 15 spring practices that he has been impressed with the flashes from the defense, adding that they have been getting their hands on a lot more balls in practice.

With year two of the Knowles era, there were sure to be improvements in the secondary from the continuity, comfortability, and stability present on the defensive side of the ball that allows the players to have more confidence and speed in the scheme.

The improvements on defense were certainly on display Saturday in the spring game as the defense played fast, was active, and consistently broke up potential explosive offensive plays.

The stability in the defense yielded great benefits for junior cornerback Denzel Burke. If Ohio State gets the Burke that it saw on Saturday, in the fall, it has something.

“I think we’ve made great strides in the secondary, I’ve been very impressed with our corners,” Day said before the spring game. I think Denzel [Burke] is playing his best football right now, I’ve been impressed with his off-season and his approach everyday, he’s gotten his hands on a lot of balls.”

In the spring game, Burke had two drive-ending pass break ups on third down on impressive deep throws from quarterback Kyle McCord to Carnell Tate and Jayden Ballard.

Burke said following the game that with year two of the system, they are more comfortable with what Knowles is going to call, the trust is there, and everyone is excited.

“I feel like we’ve got a chip on our shoulder,” Burke said. “We have a lot to prove to the world and I’m really excited for what we have in store this season. We just have to stay in the moment, keep going, getting 1 percent better each day.”

Just sayin': Caroline Rice seems to be the only person writing articles at The O Zone now. Apparently she alsop works for the BTN:

I thought CB looked very good for the most part. Burke looked back in form, Hancock was solid and Davison looks like a sparkplug that we really needed. Turner also had some nice plays. If CB play improves this year, we will have a very good defense because the front 7 is going to be really, really good imo.

I hate that Jahad Carter got hurt. Cause he could use the Safety reps in the new system. I also didn't pay that much attention but were we playing a CB or a S on the slot
