"The bag or the bat, Bob?"
  • I drove onto my Air Force Base today (Davis-Monthan, Tucson AZ) to fill up on gas. While filling my truck up, an older man wearing an OSU hat, got out of the car ahead of me to fill up as well. I greeted him with a simple "Go Bucks" and a smile. He replied with a hearty "Hell Yeah! You know it!" I laughed, walked over to shake his hand and let him know I grew up in Columbus for 18 of the 23 years of my life and loved OSU. He informed me that he was a Buckeye Alum from 1959, hailing from Youngstown, OH. We shared a couple stories while the vehicles auto-pumped and we even got into military life. The gentleman is a retired Army Officer.

While driving home, that simple conversation moved me. I began to think of the war I am leaving to go fight, and how it compared to the wars that man defended freedom in. Reminiscing still on times past, I thought of my time on OSU campus and how rich with history it was. The man I talked with has had both a helping hand in the legendary status of Ohio State and the US Military. ANY Buckeye Alum, and ANY Military alum that have come before me have paved the way for a proud tradition of myself and others to follow in and continue to build in.

I would like to send a huge :oh: and a warm thank you (if I could shake your hands, I would) to any and every man or woman that has paved the ways in the Buckeye Community and the Military for me to help build on. I couldn't be half the Buckeye or Airman I am today without the strong contributors of years past.

    Thank You...

I appreciate all the 'thank you's', as does my family. The wife understands long deployments as she is Air Force as well (shes a C-130 Mechanic).

If anything, Im think you all, because your updates on the passion of OSU football, and all the great discussions, keep me saine. The jobs you all do is just as important as mine, each and every Buckeye on here is the reason this Country still kicks ass!!! :banger:

The real Thanks is for you and your service. Keep your head down and spirits high and do so knowing that your country, Buckeye or not, supports you with unwavering pride. Be safe, and thanks for reminding me to get gas tonight before it goes up again!:)
