A few comments on a few of our seniors:

Bobby Carpenter--if Hawk weren't on this team, Carpenter would be receiving the rave "all-American" reviews. Maybe the best NFL prospect of the bunch. Will be All-Pro. May be a Hall of Famer.

John Conroy--walk on, earned scholarship. Does it get any better than that?

Tyler Everett--Mike Doss protege. Ultimate warrior. Destined for a succesfull NFL career.

Marcus Green--the Journeyman. Slogging away in the trenches. Really coming into his own in November of his final season.

Ryan Hamby--tough Senior campaign, but ultimate team player.

Rob Harley--legacy of Chic Harley lives on. Ultimate Buckeye.

AJ Hawk--what more can be said than has already been said? He's been more fun to watch than anyone since Spielman.

Josh Huston--case study in perserverance. 19 straight touchbacks and still counting. The energizer bunny.

Mike Kudla--maybe the best story of the bunch. Nearly died two years ago. I am so happy he's been able to enjoy a full injury-free season. What a force. Kudos to Kudla.

Nick Mangold--maybe the best Center in OSU history (LeCharles Bentley notwithstanding). Solid citizen. Ultimate Buckeye.

Nate Salley--as Donte Whitner says, "This is Nate Salley's secondary." Great leadership.

Anthony Schlegel--the "boar hunter." Joined our group late, but understood the meaning of Buckeye.

Brandon Schnittker--Brainiac. Maybe not the greatest skills, but a) got the most out of them, and b) imparted his leadership skills to others.

Rob Sims--Ultimate warrior. Refused to accept good enough. Challenged those around him to achieve.

Andree Tyree--Jack of all trades. Played more positions than anyone else on this list. Ironically, his versatility probably limited his playing time.

Steve Winner--walk on, earned scholarship. Does it get any better than that?

Nicely Done (and succinct too)!

The only thing that I would take issue with is the appelation of Best Buckeye Center for Mangold. My own personal vote for that status would go to Steve Meyers. Yes, I'm over 40. Why do you ask?

Have some green.

This is a special class, and they MUST go out with a special performance.

I was in the 'Shoe when THE Buckeye, Chris Spielman, left his home field for the final time with a loss. Nevermind the ridiculous Iowa comeback. Nevermind the 5-4-1 record (at the time). I was absolutely catatonic for days because THE #36 tasted defeat on Senior Day. This sickens and saddens me to this day.

This MUST NOT HAPPEN to Hawk, Kudla, Carpenter...

I can't even go on. I am so damn fired up I want to grab a helmet and defend the 'Shoe myself.

KILL THE PRETENDERS!! SMACK THEIR IMPUDENT ASSES AND SEND THEM HOME TO THEIR MOMMY CRYING!!

i really hope that the people that are lucky enough to attend Saturday's game send the seniors out with one of the loudest games ever. These boys deserve that, if you are lucky enough to be there, make sure you are loud!

LETS GO BUCKS

This class is one I feel most, I don't know, close to I guess.

It was the first class I really followed recruiting wise, and they've been through it all. I'm glad I got to grow up with them in some ways, and will be cheering them like hell to victory this Saturday!

Go Seniors!

I'm really going to miss watching A.J. and Bobby make great plays. It will be fun to root for them in the NFL.

It's going to be very upsetting when the liklihood of different teams drafting AJ and Bobby C happens. I just cannot imagine those two not roving the outside of the same defense together.

I am personally willing to contribute a small amount of money to any team that manages to draft both of these players.

What a group of seniors! These boys have seen it all at tOSU! A nat'l championship, and the growth of this current team (one of the gutsiest IMO ever at tOSU). Many of them will continue the storied Buckeye tradition in the NFL! Go gettem boys! I can't wait to see these guys in THE GAME! scUM is trembling at the prospect of having to face these men!

This list of seniors is the main reason I prefer college football over pro.

In 2002, NO ONE, knew Hawk and Carp would later-on stir debate as to which class of Lb's were the greatest EVER at tOSU. By the time these guys are pro's, the secret is out. Everyone knows how good they are by that point. Kudla would have been cut by this point by an NFL team, by no fault of his own.

IMO, the leadership learned by future players from this class, who in-turn learned alot from the 2002 squad, is what will ultimately have them beating a national power early in the season, and winning a NC in the near future.

These guys have been a great joy to watch. They will all be missed.
GO BUCKS. GO SENIORS. GO GET 'EM.

2005 Senior Class

Cleveland PD

11/27

History awaits seniors with win

Could tie mark for most victories
Sunday, November 27, 2005Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- At Ohio State, football players win. The only variable is how often.
The seven Buckeye seniors who played as freshmen during the national championship season of 2002 and will end their football careers with Ohio State's bowl game have a chance to finish with as many wins as any four-year class ever to come through Columbus.
With a bowl victory, Ohio State's record over the last four years would rise to 43-8, boosted considerably by that remarkable 14-0 season three years ago. That would match the Buckeyes' most prolific victory run, set from 1995-98 when Ohio State went 43-7.
That senior class, which featured players like quarterback Joe Germaine, cornerback Antoine Winfield, running back Joe Montgomery, linebacker Jerry Rudzinski and safety Damon Moore, won two Big Ten titles. But the class was left a bit hollow after failing to win a national championship, and beat Michigan just once in four tries.
The current class of four-year seniors, linebackers A.J. Hawk and Bobby Carpenter, offensive linemen Rob Sims and Nick Mangold, defensive backs Nate Salley and Tyler Everett and defensive end Mike Kudla, made plays for the Buckeyes' first national championship team in 32 years. They also won two Big Ten titles, and beat Michigan three times out of four. Over their careers, they've won four more games than Iowa, the next best Big Ten team.
Though this season didn't meet the national title hopes that buzzed around Columbus to start the season, their four-year stretch is hard to argue with.
"When you're a young kid, you can never dream about getting a college scholarship to play anywhere, let alone Ohio State," Hawk said. "Once I did get here, I didn't know what to expect. I didn't think about the future and what was going to happen here. I was trying to get by day-to-day and learn the defense."
Hawk and his classmates have done much more than that.
None were stars in 2002 - only Sims started in the Fiesta Bowl. But they can claim those 14 wins because they filled their roles as backups and on special teams.
Other members of that freshman class were redshirted, like quarterbacks Troy Smith and Justin Zwick, offensive linemen Doug Datish and T.J. Downing, receivers Santonio Holmes and Roy Hall, and defensive lineman Quinn Pitcock. They watched that national title and practiced with the team, but never took the field.

And the current senior class also includes a transfer, linebacker Anthony Schlegel, and seven seniors who redshirted for at least one season. But the five-year players witnessed the growing pains of Jim Tressel's first 7-5 season in Columbus. So there are the seven who are in the argument as one of the better classes in Ohio State history.
The argument begins with the senior class of 1970 that included John Brockington, Rex Kern, Jim Stillwagon, Jack Tatum and Mike Sensibaugh and in its three years of eligibility went 27-2 with three Big Ten titles and two national championships.
Since freshmen became eligible to play in 1972, the senior classes of 1975 (40-5-1) and 1976 (40-5-2) have better winning percentages than the current group. But the expansion of the schedule gave this group more opportunities to taste victory, and they took advantage of it.
"We were so proud when all of these guys chose Ohio State," coach Jim Tressel said after the team's win over Northwestern on Senior Day, "because we knew they were special kids and they were going to do a great job in the community, and they were going to do a great job on the field, and they were going to enjoy the heck out of it."
The talk now focuses on where they'll enjoy that last game. Representatives from Oregon flew to Arizona to lobby the Fiesta Bowl decision-makers this week, with the Ducks and Buckeyes the two primary final at-large options for a BCS bowl after Notre Dame.
A point to keep in mind about Ohio State's BCS hopes: any team in the top four of the final BCS rankings is guaranteed a spot in a BCS bowl. The Buckeyes, currently sixth, could still move into the BCS top four with a loss by BCS No. 4 LSU to Georgia in the SEC title game and a loss by BCS No. 5 Virginia Tech to Florida State in the ACC championship game.
There's also a theory bouncing around as to which BCS bowl the Buckeyes could land in. As postulated in the Harrisburg (Pa.) Patriot News this week, the Fiesta Bowl and ABC, seeking monster ratings with a Notre Dame-Penn State matchup, could lean on the Orange Bowl to select Ohio State ahead of the Nittany Lions with the No. 2 pick in the BCS bowl order.
For the legacy of this senior class, the opponent and location of the game doesn't matter as much. It's a win that would make history.
