Thad Matta (OSU's All Time Winningest Coach & 3x B1G COY, Butler HC)

I was thinking today, would Lorenzo Romar at Washington be a good comparison to Thad?

The only difference is, Thad has had better tournament success and more league championships (both regular season and league tournament).

But both seem to not be able to field Top 25 level squads anymore (and both have had varying success at current school in the past).

I couldn't think of a better current day comparison (at a big school).

Since the beginning of last season, the basketball Buckeyes have lost 24 games.

The football team has lost 24 games since the start of the 2005 season.

As has been pointed out by others, Thad has one glaring weakness that will draw the ire of the athletic department: attendance. When the number one team in the B1G comes to town and we draw about 5000 less than we were averaging a couple of years ago, the higher-ups are going to notice. I think that is going to be the main concern they have when talking to Thad after this season. Bringing in Beverly and Wesson next year might slightly help the team, but they aren't going to change any attendance figures either.

With attendance, outside of obviously having a better product, the administration needs other adjustments such as ticket prices and parking prices. The atmosphere is also bland (no real energy, just Top 40 music and blandness).

But overall product would obviously help.

Beverly and Wesson is a pretty underwhelming haul compared to what Thad used to bring in.
