Texas vs. Ohio State Game Preview

JWinslow pointed me in this direction to ask about some sort of pre-game analysis you guys are working on. Is there more information about it? Might I be able to help out any? I wouln't mind if you guys copy + pasted any of my posts or used them in any way.

OK -- I was reluctant to send this up the pike but attached to this is a Word (.doc) file -- it should list all examples of the 2--3 deep as projected respectively post spring game on mackbrowns web opus and that post spring game from CFN.

Specific failings of the listing provided:
1 -- It makes no attempt to project incoming freshmen and their contribution.

2 -- The 40 time data is likely useless. It was included by me because one of the controversies that became interjected into the OSU Texas 2005 thread was a speed question. These columns of 40 time data are incomplete, and I have every reason to believe that the 40 time data may be of limited value (primarily due to the age of the bulk of the data -- often times pulled from Rivals or Scout, which has been little changed since the day it was placed on those sites to describe the then prospects athletic talents). Some of the data is from NFLDraftScout.com -- I believe this is more recent, though likely acquired at different combines around the country in 2004/05. Even if the data was acquired under identical circumstances and with identical methodology (which it assuredly was not) there are other reasons to call this data into question.

E.g. A player may have been recruited with the weight of a "heavyweight" linebacker but is now playing some 30+ pounds heavier in a tackle spot, in this case the 40 time will definitely have changed, likely to a lower score. Similarly for a running back who now carries an added 10-20 pounds to improve his durability the 40 time is likely lower. Conversely a well coached speed merchant (CB or WR for instance) may actually have improved his 40 time, simply by shaving a tenth or hundredths through an improved start.

3 -- No attempt was made by me to include "strength" data on the big uglies (as Jackson would depict the linemen), nor for the linebackers and similar strength and agility positions.

So -- in summary -- it is what it is -- a work in progress and a pretty flawed one at that.

Without further fanfare, here is the piece of shit analysis I drew up.

Fact check and improve it. If you want to have 40 times updated that's fine, but I'd appreciate knowing the source / timeline so we are dealing with information from a similar time period.

My hope is that can be a living document kind of thing, so changes and improvements are welcomed. I've got a thick skin on these type of things so critiscism won't hurt me. :box:
Moronic suggestions might get rubies though - unless its done with BP class and wit that is.
