I'm thinking of relocating to the Houston area and need the skinny. I need to know where the good 'burbs are and what the schools are like. My initial feelers have come back with Katy being a nice place but I'd love to hear some different opinions. Thanks in advance.

I used to live in the Houston area, and I lived in an area called Sugar Land, Texas; probably 25 miles southwest of Houston. For the most part, it's a pretty nice place (I don't know what your expectations are), and the people there are very friendly.

Unfortunately, in any area of Texas you live in you'll hear people yacking about the A&M-UT game, but it's really not that big of a deal.

Thanks.

heard a lot of good things about Sugarland so far. Mainly I'm after good schools and good areas to raise a family.

How old are your kids, if you don't mind me asking?

I went to an elementary school called Walker Station Elementary, and they had spectacular teaching, and supposedly is still one of the best schools in the area.

Then, there's a Sartartia Middle School, that is perhaps one of the most gorgeous middle school's you will ever see, and are in the top ten percent of academics in the state.

Lastly, the high school is Austin High School, and has one of the best marching bands in the country, and was the band playing in "Friday Night Lights." I don't know much else about the people and academics there, though.
