Game Thread Texas at tOSU, Sat. Aug. 30th, TBA

Agree it sucks, but Bjork’s weight on this matter is akin to a gnat on the moon.
Well yeah, he'd have to get in Petitti's ear to have any chance of getting anything to change.

And yes, it's fucking asinine for Ohio State to have to play every single relevant game at noon, especially at home, which completely and utterly negates any sort of home field advantage we should have.

This shouldn't be that hard. If FOX wants to keep Big Noon a thing, there are other teams in the Big Ten. If they want to televise OSU or another Big Ten program on Big Noon more than...3-4 times, they can get fucked and deal with competing against ESPN. Hell, try to find weekends where the SEC slate is weak, and put OSU in primetime on those weekends to lessen any worry about competition. Etc. People will watch OSU no matter what. You could put the game at 3 in the goddamn morning and it'll still get views. The issue is not about viewership; it's about the gameday experience, the environment, and what should be a homefield advantage. FOX has completely ripped that away from us and Petitti should step the fuck up and do something about it.

Can't say I disagree, but hey, it truly is about the Benjamins. For the payment of a billion dollars to the B10, TV has to generate more revenue, which means selling advertising, which means increased viewership. Purdue v. Washington isn't going to cut it, but companies will be lining up, and paying serious dollars for Texas v tOSU in primetime. USC v Oregon is three time zones behind, and the players breakfasts aren't even digested by the time they'd have to strap it up for primetime, so leaves tOSU, Xichigan and PSU. Also, given that tOSU has a tremendous alumni base (many in Az and Cali), that's also a draw. Anyway, that's my reality check for the day. Bjork gonna stump for a bigger tOSU share of the pie? Possible, but not probable. Go Bucks!

Upside of a noon game that is seldom discussed on the air: When the opponent takes a proper fisting, the walk of shame in the harsh reality of daylight, starts immediately after the event.

So there is that
And the fans of the winners (us) can begin drinking early and stay on it all day long into the night. Except for my obligatory nap.

The Longhorns visit the ‘Shoe for the first time since their Vince Young-led 2005 team won 25-22 on their way to the National Title. There is a chance this will be a matchup of the preseason #1 and #2 teams.

The Buckeyes evened the series by winning at DKR in 2006, with James Laurinaitis, Teddy Ginn, and Troy Smith leading the way.

Prior to the glorious CFP Cotton Bowl game last January, the only other matchup was a 21-24 Fiesta Bowl loss in Glendale after the 2008 season, when Terrelle Pryor was a freshman and Colt McCoy was a junior who had just won the Walter Camp POY Award.

The most recent Buckeye victory, sealed by Jack Sawyer‘s 83-yard play for the ages, once again tied the series at 2-2.
I remember both of those '05/'06 games all so well, selective memory will direct me to '06 though. JL had one of the best performances I have seen from a LB that night. I have seen some great ones from guys like Big Kat, Hawk, Carpenter, etc. But that night JL might have had the best game I have watched in my lifetime. Ginn and Smith were incredible as well, that was such a fun team to watch.

Gotta be honest though, I hate this game being our opener. We lose over half our team and the conference slate looks rough. We need to be playing teams like this in the playoffs, not the opener. The excitement factor is definitely there for the game, but from a strategy perspective this could play out poorly with a widely new roster.

Just do the right thing and make this a night game.
We are somehow awful in night games at the Shoe to my recollection. I hate waking up on MST that early on a Saturday but the team seems to play better for whatever reason at an earlier time. I love to watch the games under the lights, but this might be an advantage. It may make no difference, but I just remember quite a few disappointments at night in the Shoe and thinking that would be some advantage.

2025 College Football Playoff picture: Each week's most important game in shaping 12-team race

Picking one game for each week of the 2025 college football schedule with CFP implications

Week 1: Texas at Ohio State

We do have a pretty stellar Week 1 schedule in terms of high-profile nonconference matchups, and what makes things even more exciting is seeing so many of those games being played in home stadiums as opposed to neutral sites. Alabama has to travel to Tallahassee for its opener against a Florida State team looking to rebound from last year's disappointments; Clemson is playing host to LSU in its version of Death Valley; and Sunday night's showcase on Labor Day weekend features the latest chapter in the Notre Dame-Miami matchup with a showdown in South Florida.

But the headliner is the rematch of this year's Cotton Bowl semifinal. Ryan Day and Steve Sarkisian could be leading the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country into battle. This won't be a make-or-break game for either team's playoff chances with so much season left to play, but the winner will have arguably the best win of the season on their profile for the rest of the year.
