I agree with you when it comes to marriage in a church, but marriage in this country is a civil contract. You don't need a marriage recognized by any church in order to be valid. You have to get your license from your local government. You can't just show up at the church and have the preacher marry you without a license. In fact, you don't need a religious officiator to marry you at all. A justice of the peace, mayor, or sea captain can marry you, if you so desire.

True, but the foundations for the marriage ceremony originated in the church. The government has since allowed couples to be married outside of a church, most likely following today's cultural belief that the church should be separated from the state. What I find ironic about this is that the founding fathers wanted to keep the government out of the church, not keep the church out of the government. Keeping the government out of the church is the main reasoning behind our Constitution, and the main reason the original "separatists", or Pilgrims, ever came to America to begin with.

The DoMA will be thrown out by the SC if they get. I hate to say it, but it blatantly violates full faith and credit and all it takes is 5 black robes.
