How in the world does Butch recruit so well, yet still have bad to below average teams?!? Is he giving roofies to kids to get them to commit? Does he have black mail info on parents? Just wonder how these kids get convinced to average in the SEC east and lose in 3rd tier bowl games. And then dress like prison inmates

I think it's really been just this year and last that he's been recruiting well. Dooley left that program a dumpster fire, so he has a mighty large hole to dig out of.

I believe that Kiffin left them in a hole as well. But he was also recruiting at a high rate towards mediocrity on the field

Former Tennessee Volunteers running back Arian Foster created a stir on Friday when he first said he was given $40,000-$50,000 in cash by boosters while playing football at the university before backtracking via a series of tweets.
It would be hilarious if some of those boosters were members of the Haslam family.

Word is that their early commits, Vic Wharton & Todd Kelly Jr have been doing an amazing job of recruiting for them.

Ex-Vols WR Vic Wharton tweets he’s transferring to Cal

In a tweet posted to his Twitter account Saturday, the wide receiver revealed that he will be transferring to Cal and continuing his collegiate playing career with the Golden Bears. Tennessee head coach Butch Jones acknowledged last month that Wheaton was moving on from the Vols and was “going through the process of deciding what is the best fit for him moving forward.

Butch Jones has brought in some really good talent here. The question is, will he be able to develop it/be given the time do so ? I remember a certain Ron Zook doing the same at Florida & not being able to achieve success, yet another man fostered his undoubtedly talented squad into a force to be reckoned with.

Jay Harbaugh isn't the only one doing goofy things to woo recruits. Check out Butch Jones' handiwork from last year:

Tennessee was pursuing defensive tackle Shy Tuttle, a five-star recruit out of Lexington, North Carolina, who is high on UNC. Here’s what the Vols photoshopped:

He committed to Tennessee on 9/26/2014.
