Temple -4.5 at Ohio (ov/un 45.5) Wed 8 ET, ESPN

that taunting rule that takes touchdowns off of the board for "celebrating" is officially the stupidest rule the NCAA has come up with - especially since it's at the discretion of the officials on the field.

A guy for Ohio just went 81 yards, and he dove from the 3 and half yard line into the end zone, when he wasn't going to be touched before he scored, and the ref near the goal line threw a flag. It looked like it was going to be first down on the 18 yard line, since the ref was obviously signaling the new penalty for excessive celebration before the actual TD.

But then the refs talked about it and called a sideline penalty on Ohio, to be marked off on the kickoff. They announced to the crowd that there was no celebration penalty, and then Temple coach Addazio was irate at the non-call.

The ref that threw the flag was running along the Temple sideline, so he couldn't have been throwing the flag for that. It looked like he just changed his mind.

The refs don't want to enforce that stupid rule. I don't blame them, but it is not their job to make up the rules as they go along. Temple's coach had every reason to be irate because of it.

I agree. Since I have Ohio and the over, I was pissed at the kid when he dove, even before I saw the flag (which I was expecting), I was surprised when they just ignored it.

I agree. It is way too subjective and I don't think a little celebration warrants taking away a score. I think it will be interesting to see what happens when one of these calls alter the outcome of an important game.
