I put this together a couple weeks ago for my own amusement. I have no intentions of pushing sales of this type of item through the site right now, so this is *not* part of any sort of donation drive/fundraiser that may or may not present itself in the near future to help me out with the programming costs. I think the markup on those things is like $2.50 per item, so anything that would come in from that would be negligible.

We may well want to do tees down the road. I remember a bunch of us wanted Bucknut$ tees that included our usernames, but per the norm, they were having none of it. Down the road if this place builds up a bit, I remember one of my Jax bretheren works at or owns an embroidery shop here in town, maybe we'll hook it up that way some day at cost, or some small markup to cover his time and effort. Again, in a situation like that, I just don't see the point in big markups and pimping the items for the sake of a couple bucks.

I was keeping this to myself, someone came across is while wandering around CafePress and asked me about it, so I'm posting the link here for your amusement alone. Just in case someone else will get a kick out of what the back of the tee says.

I got myself a tee and frisbee, okay, a thong too. The quality is about what you'd expect from CafePress.

The hat was sweet. I think i'll be ordering one tonight.

The hat itself is of a pretty nice quality, velcro back. The logo gets a little washed out in terms of depth of color, it's not quite as vibrant as their picture suggests, but I'm still glad I got it.

Mostly I just wanted the novelty of a few BP items for myself. The dogs are happily mauling the frisbee as we speak. I get to throw it once, and then its theirs.

I like it... I don't know if BN has copywright on the word bucknuts... but they might not like that... I'd double check to see if you are in legal bounds or they might try to cause some trouble (seeing as how this is the rouge site in their mind)....

Dug around a lot on their site before making these (and remember, they were never intended for anyone's eyes but my own), and nowhere did I find any mention of Bucknuts being a registered trademark. They do hold 'standard' copyright protection over their website, editorial writings, graphics, etc., but that wouldn't extend to the the words that make up name itself as far as I know without trademark protection. So had I used their "logo", that would have been a problem. Using the term "Bucknut(s)" alone, particuarly as it's a term used within the community to refer to fans as well, shouldn't be a issue.

On the flipside, I don't specialize in intellectual property law, lol, nor do I in any form of law. Just going off of my experiences in the past when I forked over ungodly amounts of cash to firms like Latham & Watkins, and Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker to cover my interests. Those days are long gone, but even if they weren't, I wouldn't bother asking them about something like this.

If they want to make it an issue, they can email me  and ask that I remove it, or be real fancy-like and get some hack to toss a boilerplate C&D at me, then I probably will remove it just as a good faith gesture. Just like I did when OZ had a problem with fair use of one of their images as the loose background and inspiration for a derivative work that wasn't put out as a commercial product of any sort. Taking it down really isn't all that big an issue, because I didn't ever mean to 'put it up' in the first place.

To be honest I don't think "Too nuts for Bucknuts, too Buck-nuts to care" is even a slight shot at them. Just seemed amusing to me at the time.

This all brings up an interesting point. In an effort to not directly reference those who might not want to be referenced, I could come up with 'Indian names' made from anagrams of their names. Like;

"Bark like rear" -- sounds like a flatulence problem.
"Did bad devil" -- should have seen that little attack coming.
"Eh, get new slave" -- someone has to toss some content up.
"Suck butt condom" -- XxxxXxxxdotcom.

I'd do Lee/Mr.Bucknuts too, but you don't mess too hard with a man who sold his business for $51 million in stock and cash last Summer. :p

I don't see how Bustnuts can do anything. I can make a t-shirt that says "I hate Microsoft", and Bill Gates can do jack squat about it. But, if I use their logo on the shirt, then I'm in deep kimchi. C-Dog's shirt has no Bustnuts logo, so he's cool.

Bottom line is I wanted to see (1) how the process worked to do shirts and such through CafePress, (2) what the quality was like, and (3) send our buddy BuckeyeBeliever/BuckeyeTillEYEdie a goofy little "get well" package now that he's home.

I've got answers to both questions, and took care of the other interest, so I'll probably nuke the "Suck Butt Condom"-related products in the next day or two.

C-Dog,

just making sure no trouble was to come of it...

Oh I know. I certainly had no problem with you asking about it.

Maybe Lee would be unhappy with it, I don't know, but I don't think I'm stepping on his intellectual property rights, and to be honest, the mention isn't even remotely disparaging.

Legendary sporting item debuted on this date 54 years ago

Thursday, January 13th. To some, it?s a toy ? to others, it?s a piece of serious sporting equipment. Either way, the Frisbee as we know it was introduced on this date in 1957, giving people of all ages, along with some talented dogs, an excuse for hours of fun. The name is thought to have come from the Frisbee Baking Company, which baked pies for colleges in New England for many years. Students soon discovered the empty pie tins could be sailed through the air. In 1948, Walter Morrison invented a plastic version, which he called the ?pluto platter,? to cash in on the UFO craze. Today, the Frisbee is an established part of the inventory of the nation?s nearly 22,000 sporting goods stores, which ring up sales of more than $34 billion annually. ? U.S. Census Bureau
