Teen Allegedly Jabs Students With Needle

ST. ALBANS, Vt. -- A Vermont high school student is facing assault charges after allegedly stabbing eight fellow students with a needle and syringe he found by the side of the road.
Officials urged the jabbed students at Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans to be vaccinated against hepatitis B. They said the incidents also posed a risk of hepatitis C and HIV, but those diseases would not be expected to show in tests for months.
Police said they have not been able to recover the needle, because the 16-year-old suspect threw it away. They said they do not know whether it was infected.
The student will be charged with eight counts of assault, police said.
School officials said they also intend to discipline the student.
