Exactly what I did. I was a huge Ripken fan. I still have a Ripken plaque hanging on the wall behind me. But since he retired I have not watched a full baseball game. I can't even get into it.

When he and Tony Gwynn retired, everyone I rooted for in baseball was gone.

I now show the Washington Nationals emblem because of the contract with the Clippers. That is all.

In my sports room, I have 5 non-Buckeye things.

The Preserverance poster that Cal was a part of. It's the first thing you see when you get to the bottom of the steps.

A framed 12x16 (I think) photo of his final at bat at Camden Yards.

An American Flag that I was able to get flown over Camp Victory in Iraq.

A road sign for the Detroit Red Wings :)

And the tickets to the final game I was going to see him play. It was against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, September 11th, 2001.

Eventually I'm going to find a way to show off his rookie cards and maybe the baseball he signed for me.

You should try this Barry Bonds fella. Rooting for him is easy. :p

Did you hear about the latest coming out of San Francisco? Apparently Barry would sometimes refuse to be a pinch-hitter in key spots and would be asleep during the 9th inning of some games when he wasn't in?

And he'll wonder why the Giants won't offer him a contract in a couple weeks.

I heard about that on the radio today. What a great team player :roll1:

I bet he still gets a contract though, the Giants will have no problem being the team he's on when he hits 756... Assuming he eventually does.

Hank Aaron, quite possibly the greatest power hitter ever.
  • Home Runs: 1st with 755
  • RBIs: 1st with 2,297
  • Total bases: 1st with 6,856
  • Extra Base hits: 1st with 1,477
  • At-Bats: 2nd with 12,364
  • Runs Scored: Tied with Babe Ruth for 3rd with 2,174
  • Hits: 3rd with 3,771
  • Games: 3rd with 3.298
Aaron's calling card was consistency. From 1954 to 1976, Aaron hit 20 or more HRs in 20 seasons and hit 30 or more in 15 seasons. Those two feats have never been equaled. Aaron never used steroids to enhance his abilities.

Since the Bengals suck, it wouldn't be a bandwagon move. :)

that is breaking news, lol in the years past they did but look at the ownership and the I dont give a fuck attitude from the front office.

I don't know if he was the greatest, but he's certainly #2 or #3 if he isn't.

I'd personally put Mays and then Ruth ahead of him. Had Willie Mays (and Aaron or Ruth, but Aaron got to play at the Launching Pad in Atlanta for a few years), but had they been able to play in the bandboxes the players have today, 1,000 homers for any of them wouldn't be out of the question.

Ruth did it on Beer, Hot Dogs and chasing skirts for hours at end....

Mays did it through hard work and killing himself out in Center Field...

Aaron did it with amazing consistency as you said.

Bonds did it with beef roids, estrogen and hGH.

One of these things is NOT like the other thing....

I'd agree with a Ruth or Mays better than Aaron, but considering the number of players and the time frame, they're all "the same" in the sense that it's impossible to truly know who was better. But, like I said, I wouldnt quibble with either Ruth or Mays.

They are all greats and they all did it the RIGHT way.

Grew up a Steelers fan. Remember when they drafted Terry Hanratty? Still love Myron Cope.
Moved to Connecticut and became a Giants fan, even when I had a friend playing for the Jets.
Moved again(New Mexico). Hate the Broncos, Cowboys and just about any team from Texas! :tongue2:
Enjoy watching the occasional Colts game because my wife likes Peyton.
Free agency has ruined sports and team loyalty. :smash:
And anyone who roots for the Ravens should burn in a special hell!

And a gentleman in all the many ways that term can be applied.

If you've never been to the Hall of Fame, they've got a letter mounted with an extreme amount of hate and racism, as well as a threat on Aaron's life. It's amazing what he went through to acheive what he did. I will be sick to my stomach if a scumbag like Barry Bonds breaks a man like Hank Aaron's record. Every team in the majors should act as if he's not a free agent and if no team signs him, he can't best Aaron. Wouldn't that be the sweet taste of victory, despite the fact he already trumped Ruth (possibly the greatest ball player of all time considering his stats... Ruth led the league in team homeruns by himself). Many may also know Ruth was an outstanding pitcher. Anyway, to the point- Bonds disgusts me. Everything he stands for disgusts me. It may be a media induced opinion, since I don't know him personally, but from some of the things I've heard him say and some of the things I've heard him do... I stand strong on my opinion of the homerun record and the purity of it that should not be violated.
