TE Max Klare (Official Thread)

Ohio State playmaker named as one of the players that isn’t being talked about enough in the national college football landscape

Ohio State’s offense was led by Jeremiah Smith as a freshman last season, and he commanded the attention of opposing defenses from Week 1 onward.

The Buckeyes ran their offense through Smith, and that will likely be the case again in 2025. As a sophomore, the star wideout is expected to have an even bigger season as he continues to develop.

That should open up opportunities for his teammates, who could thrive as secondary options. One of Ohio State’s biggest transfer portal additions is among those expected to benefit.

National Outlet Names Ohio State TE Max Klare as a Player Not Being Talked About Enough

On3 recently compiled a list of 10 college football players who aren’t receiving enough attention heading into the 2025 season. Ohio State’s new tight end, Max Klare, was included on that list.

“You could also probably put receiver Carnell Tate on this list, but Klare steps in to help Ohio State’s passing attack as the Buckeyes reload after winning the national title. A transfer from Purdue, Klare had 51 catches for 685 yards for the Boilermakers and could be even more dangerous when surrounded by the best receiving corps in college football. Quarterback Julian Sayin is the projected starter, and he’ll have plenty of weapons at his disposal this fall.”

Klare had a breakout year with the Purdue Boilermakers last season, recording 685 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The talented tight end enters Ohio State with two years of eligibility remaining after a redshirt freshman campaign.

If we can use him like UGA did Bowers, it will make life easier for whichever new QB is our starter. I'm really looking forward to seeing how Day and Hartline integrate him with the offense.

Run him right down the middle when they play 2 high safeties to handle Smith and his crew.

Throw it to which ever one they fail to cover because they will fail to handle one of them.

Smith is juts such a match up problem, this was one of the shrewdest portal moves I can think of.

I like ruthless Ryan Day.

No offseason is complete without grand fantasies about the TE at Ohio State.

Welcome to the club, Max.

It speaks more to Smith than Klare imo.

No disrespect to Klare but when you have that 1 of 1 out there dictating what defense the opponent is going to have to play 70+% of the time, then you make a good TE into an absolute killer matchup. How many LB's, even on the best teams, can run down the middle with a good TE?

It's a total mismatch.

100% agree. I think these ideas actually come to fruition with this one. Finally. I just had to poke fun at us.

There’s a reason Day went after Klare in the portal and not some blocking depth type of guy. I fully believe there’s a vision to utilize Klare as the Bowers/Kelce/Kittle of this offense - and the kid has insane talent to do it. Especially with a new QB.

And yeah, Smith on the outside is one of the biggest matchup nightmares in a generation (or multiple). It’d be almost impossible not to see a big season for our TE target.

Making life easier is probably a vast understatement of Klare proved to be a talent of Bowers’ caliber and he ends up being used similarly when you consider a transcendent talent like Smith will also be on the perimeter.

Those two — in addition to TWO other projected to be above average starters at slot and the other outside spots — make this offense borderline impossible to defend. It’s 2004 USC/2019 LSU level stuff. Once-in-a decade kind of stuff if Sayin turns out to just be “good.”

The degree to which you can manipulate defenses with pre snap motion is absolutely fucking insane. I wish Kelly was at the helm one more time with it, really hope Hartline took in as much as he could from a system, preparation and analytical standpoint.

I digressed hard. But Klare could absolutely wreck on the intermediate with how at least one safety will have to play deep with Smith. Defenses will essentially have no choice but to be in nickel or dime packages and imagine how much you could ran at that with this OL too.

If this offense isn’t dropping 40-44 points a game something went really wrong whether that be personnel or play calling. If personnel including BAD QB play.
