TE Kyle Rudolph (Minnesota Vikings)

Talked to one of my Elder contacts today. OSU IS the leader and he could almost guarantee an early committment if OSU gives the thumbs up on Kyle playing basketball in the offseason.

My Elder contact has strong connections to the school and athletic department. I trust this source.

Wow, completely opposite of what I had been hearing...

Great news indeed...

send me a PM with what you have been hearing and I'll run it by my source. But I was told OSU is a solid number 1 right now and that he wants to play hoops for the Bucks as well.

Again, as I said in the Cam Heyward thread, it just isn't likely that Matta has much to offer Rudolph in the way of basketball opportunities. Hope that isn't too crucial to his decision. The Bucks are going to have a hard enough time keeping 4-star hoopers happy starting next year....usually footballers get chances at big schools when the hoops team is down a little bit (Nate Salley, John Lumpkin, Julius Peppers at UNC, etc.) That is obviously not the case anymore. But, hey, you've got to go for your dream.

As 21 mentioned yesterday, many ahtletes talks/dream of playing two sports in college while they are still in high school. But once they get to college and see the rigors of being a D1 athlete in one sport, let alone two, they realize it just isn't possible. Not saying Kyle isn't capable, because he would be a nice compliment to the class Matta has signed for '08 + Babbit (how is similar in size to Kyle) but the likelihood of this happening just isn't as great as many of these kids like to think.

A close friend of mine called me after meeting Tressel for a couple hours on Friday. Although my friend was never a big buckeye fan he was very impressed with JT. For whatever it is worth, my friend is not impressed with Weiss and his ego.

Told me that JT was on his way to Price Hill Chilli and then going to watch Kyle play basketball. Wanted to see his ability to run up and down the court. Although we think he is a Buckeye lean his family (esp. grandfather) are Notre Dame fans.

I highly doubt Kyle will play basketball at Ohio State.

Thanks cintibuck...a lot of what you posted has already been posted in this thread (i.e. JT going to watch Kyle play basketball over the weekend, Kyle's family being ND fans, H&G posting that Kyle is a slight Buckeye lean at this early stage), but we still appreciate your input.

No problem. I also forgot to mention one interesting fact about Kyle's visit to Columbus during the Buckeyes/Michigan game. Although he was impressed with the atmosphere, he did feel that he wasn't one of the top recruits at that game (based on the amount of attention that he received). Unfortunately, that is what happens when you go to a big game. Obviously, the focus was on the game and certain players that were making official visits. In no way should this post make it appear that Kyle is a prima donna since he is far from that.

Also, for what ever it is worth, my friend who is a coach at Elder mentioned that Kyle has one of the best hands for a big man. Would be nice to see a 6'7" TE that can run and catch.

Prep notes or Buckeyes recruiting news?

2/6/2007, 9:56 p.m. ETBy RUSTY MILLER
The Associated Press
(AP) ? The sweater vest was a dead giveaway.
Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel was in attendance at Cincinnati Elder's "Pit" on Friday night to watch Kyle Rudolph, a football star who also is Elder's top basketball player.
Rudolph, a 6-foot-7 junior, had 20 points to lead Elder past Moeller 58-50 before a sellout crowd of about 2,000.Tressel is recruiting Rudolph as a tight end, with Rudolph also considering Notre Dame, Michigan, Tennessee and Virginia for football.
"I knew he was up there," Rudolph said of Tressel. "I think it's pretty neat that he was here at Elder. Hopefully, we made him proud."
Elder (15-1) and Moeller (16-1) have lost only to each other this season.

His time starts now, and hopefully soon he starts feeling the love they are gonna show.

Agreed...Kyle is unquestionably the #1 target on the staff's board at TE...which is why he has been sitting on an offer for a month. No way they don't show Kyle "the love"...
