Ryan Day Says Losing to Michigan is One of the Worst Things That’s Ever Happened to Him: “We Can Never Have That Happen Again Ever”

Big Ten championships, College Football Playoff appearances and national titles are important at Ohio State. However, nothing is as important as The Game.

Players and coaches have their legacies defined by their record against Michigan. Nobody knows this more than the men who have roamed the sideline as the program’s head coach.

If anybody has ever questioned if Ryan Day understands the importance of the rivalry after losing three consecutive games to the rival, you can bury that line of thinking based on what he said in his interview with 10TV’s Game Time with Ryan Day on Monday.

Day is no stranger to tragedy, having lost his father to suicide when he was a child, yet he says suffering three straight losses to Michigan is one of the worst things that’s ever happened to him in his life. And he’s driven to make sure that doesn’t happen again when Ohio State plays Michigan on Saturday.

“We felt what it's like to not win this game, and it's bad. It's one of the worst things that's happened to me in my life, quite honestly,” Day said.

“Other than losing my father and a few other things, like it's quite honestly, for my family, the worst thing that's happened. So we can never have that happen again ever. And that's been the approach all season.”

Day said that The Game is “not just a game – it’s our life,” and that another shot at beating Michigan has served as the chief motivator for his team all year long. And while he appreciates what players like Jack Sawyer and Will Howard said after Saturday’s game about wanting to win this week’s game for Day, he said he wants to win the game for them as well as Ohio State’s fans.

“We know what this game means. And certainly I know what this game means. And there's a lot of people counting on this game,” Day said. “This is our identity. It's who we are. We don't have anything else. So it's a big responsibility. And the last couple of years, when it doesn't get done, it just eats at your core. And so it just motivates you every single day to come back, to get this done, to stand on the field and sing the Carmen Ohio after winning this game.

“It's not about me ... it's about these seniors who decided to come back. They're the ones that are on the field. They're the true warriors that go put it on the line every game. And they came back for a reason: It's to win this game. And they've made that very clear. And so, you know, while we're all involved in it and I appreciate what they said, this is about these players.”

“We felt what it's like to not win this game, and it's bad. It's one of the worst things that's happened to me in my life, quite honestly ... So we can never have that happen again ever.”– Ryan Day on losing to Michigan

Buckeyes in the First 12-Team CFP

Ohio State now holds two wins over teams ranked in the top five at the time and who will likely be in the inaugural 12-team CFP, one of those on the road at Penn State. The Buckeyes' only loss was to the country's No. 1 team, and it was on the road by one point. Their win over Indiana all but clinched a playoff berth, regardless of what happens against Michigan or in a potential Big Ten Championship Game.

That playoff will console approximately zero percent of Buckeye Nation if Ohio State loses on Saturday. But at least it's locked down.

Just sayin': Losing on Saturday to scUM is not an option.

TTUN player's Tik Tok gives Ohio State football players even more motivation

A Tik Tok taken by a Michigan player following their win over the Ohio State football team last season is giving the Buckeyes even more motivation to destroy them.

The Ohio State football team won't be short on motivation for The Game this weekend. This group of seniors has never beaten the Wolverines. It hasn't been since 2019 that the Ohio State Buckeyes have won a game against TTUN. Because of that, they have had to deal with a lot of trash talk.

Trash talk has come from the opposing fanbase, coaches, and even players. Quite frankly, the Buckeyes shouldn't need any more motivation to beat this terrible Wolverines team into oblivion. But just in case they need more, a TTUN player has given them more.

An old Tik Tok taken after Michigan beat Ohio State last year has resurfaced because of some choice words from that player. Sophomore Semaj Morgan, who was a freshman last year, called out multiple former Ohio State football players and Ryan Day. Current Buckeyes are taking notice.

Michigan player calls out the Ohio State football team in a resurfaced social media post

In this clip, Morgan calls Ryan Day a "b****". He also calls out Marvin Harrison Jr. and Sonny Styles. Take a look at the clip , but it is very NSFW because of strong language, so you've been warned. There's a reason why this clip has resurfaced today, and it's because of a current Buckeye defender.

Jermaine Mathews Jr. simply quote tweeted the post saying, "noted." and that's how many people were able to see this clip. Clearly, the Buckeyes are taking stock of this and filing it away. If they end up winning this game, a lot of receipts are going to be coming out.

This week always gets nasty, but this week will get particularly nasty. Ohio State is tired of everything that has happened over the last few years, including the cheating scandal that clearly had an effect on this game in the past. Also, Morgan has just three career touchdowns. He's not in any position to talk trash.
