This week’s fans were lobbed a big, fat slow pitch softball, to steal a term from another sport. The Buckeyes fired on all cylinders against their biggest rival on Saturday and our participants had plenty to say! Big thank you to Nick @BrutusMaximus15, Micah @micaht22, Dave @CampbellDB20 and Chris @chris_drake! Please give them a follow on twitter.

Did the Buckeyes offense perform the way you expected or better? What are your thoughts on Warinner going to the booth?

Nick @BrutusMaximus15 – Honestly, with the inconstant play of the offense most of the season, and how poorly they performed the week before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’d have to say they performed better than I expected. The Slobs mauled TTUN’s front much like they did during the stretch run last year. As for Warinner’s move, one game may be too small of a sample size, but it sure looked like the play calling finally found a groove.

After a great Game and some wonderful Tweets THIS is the THE Tweet of the Day! @CoachZachSmith https://t.co/FP3iWq4FOi

Yes the Offense looked like last year. The pace of play is what made the difference. Michigan could not rotate their line. J.T. kept them out there by resetting and snapping the ball

The offense performed better than I thought. They looked great like they did the last 3 games of last year and having both OCs up in the booth was the right move. I just wish they had done that all year

I completely expected the offense to ram the ball down the throat of Michigan’s… I can’t even finish that sentence. I had no clue what to expect after the MSU debacle. I knew there would be a wrinkle or two that had been saved for this game but I really believed it would be more of what I saw the past few games. I was very hopeful that the O-Line would play with a level of anger similar to the Virginia Tech game. The offense played fast, smooth, and mad… Way beyond what I expected.

When I heard that Warriner was going to be in the booth, it was my first fist-pump of the day. I was hopeful that it meant that the fast tempo would return. I was also hopeful that it would mean that Beck was calling less of the actual plays and would instead just be agreeing with what Ed wanted to do. I’m not the biggest Beck fan. I live in Omaha. I have heard absolutely everything negative that could be said about Tim Beck, his lineage, and where he should go. I don’t make a habit of questioning the decisions of championship winning football coaches but I immediately questioned Urban hiring Beck. Sometimes being right sucks.

The Silver Bullets rose to the occasion again. What was the best part about their scheme and did you expect Rudock to have the yards he did?

Nick @BrutusMaximus15 – Scheme wise they completely shut down the run game. Boom. That’s always where defense starts. In addition, they did pretty well against the screen plays as well. Rudock’s yards didn’t shock me. He’d been passing very well as of late. If we could have taken Butt away, and gotten off the field on third downs in the first half, his numbers would have been much worse.

Micah @micaht22 – Yes, they did bend but did not break. Our secondary should have looked for the ball more we would have had some picks if they had their heads turned around.

Dave @CampbellDB20 – The defense started out poorly but turned it up in 2nd half. I think Urban must have lit a fire under their butts because they started knocking heads. I still feel our secondary lacking.

Chris @chris_drake – I was pretty confident going into the game that Michigan would have no chance of succeeding on the ground. I expected Peppers to have more of an impact and probably even break a long TD.

Knowing that Rudock was on a hot-streak scared me a little and the early stages of the game did little to ease that. I saw WAY too many DBs and LBs flat-footed and out of position on pass plays. Luckily, the Ohio State D-Line got in a rhythm and so did Ash/Fickell. The yardage doesn’t concern me. I don’t care if a defense gives up 500 yards of offense a game. I care about points. The main thing I was surprised by was that Rudock wasn’t picked off.

Give them an overall grade and explain your grade.

Nick @BrutusMaximus15 – Offensively I’d say B+. I would love to have actually hit the magical 500 yard milestone in total offense (came darn close) and we missed a few balls in the passing game. Defensively I’d say A- or B+ as well. Holding any team under 60 yards rushing is an A+, but I’d take some off for those 3rd downs. Hey, only 14 points? I’ll take that.

Micah @micaht22 – A- In the first quarter, we should have rushed the QB more

Dave @CampbellDB20 – The 1st half I give a C, but the 2nd half an A+. Not very much to cheer about in 1st half other than a few things. Zeke of course did his job and Barrett looked good when he would take off running and not hesitate. Overall the team in the 2nd half dominated both sides of the ball and line looked great, even. I wanted this team all year!

Chris @chris_drake – Before I grade the team, I need to give some personal background. I’m 44, I’m a man, and I love points and huge margins… Even more so against Michigan. I was at the height of my Ohio State fandom during the Cooper era AND I lived in Nebraska during their mid-90’s run. Most of those bozos didn’t care about Ohio State football… unless they knew me.

See, the only thing a Nebraska fan loves more than the Huskers is when somebody that lives in the state isn’t a Nebraska fan and their team loses. Whenever Ohio State would lose, I couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about it. That did two things, made me hate Nebraska fans and made me bitter about The Game. I’ve often thought that if Nebraska fans weren’t such jerks to me, the Cooper years would have driven me to the Husk Side.

All that leads me to this… I was extremely happy with how Ohio State played on offense and defense. It was almost perfect. What would have been perfect? Scoring that last damn touchdown and going for 2. That one failure knocks them to a solid A.

What is your prediction for where the Buckeyes end up with regards to the playoff and if they’re not making it, what’s your dream bowl match-up?

Nick @BrutusMaximus15 – As much as I want to see the Bucks sneak into the top four, I think we’re gonna land at #5 when all is said and done. The winner of Iowa/Michigan State is obviously in. Oklahoma I think is a lock considering they can’t lose again. We need at least two of the four top teams to lose this week.

Having all 3 that play championship games lose would be our best scenario. If all that chaos happened I think Michigan State MIGHT drag us with them into the playoff as a second Big Ten team. As for a dream bowl matchup… Maybe Notre Dame? I know some would love to see us play Houston for the urban vs. Herman aspect, but isn’t it always fun to beat the Golden Domers?

Micah @micaht22 – I think that we have the best 1 loss record. Period. IF the Playoff Committee looks at the poor choice of Florida State last year ( no choice, they were undefeated) that’s what Alabama will be this year. We come in 4th. Michigan state will beat Iowa by 2 TDs and that will solidify our lose to State. Dream match up is Clemson.

Oh, and ratings this year. We have the top 3 games of the year across all networks. That is were we will get $$$.

Dave @CampbellDB20 – I would love to see them still make the CFB playoffs. I think they would win it all again. But if not, the Rose Bowl, grand daddy of them all, would be sweet vs a Top 10 team. I don’t care who as long as they’re top of their conference like PAC-10, SEC or Big 12.

I would love to have the MSU game back. Then there would be no discussion about playing Iowa in B1G Championship then off to the CFB Playoffs. I would love shot at Clemson again, actually.

Chris @chris_drake – I’ve mentioned a few times on Twitter this season that I wasn’t going to concern myself with the end result of this year and just enjoy the ride. I don’t need a championship every year. Sure, it would be great but I can handle only having one every few years. That being said, I knew early on that this team had problems. Injuries to Zone 6, losing Tom Herman and Devin Smith, and trophy complacency all had me worried. I’m not a football expert but I know the game and I trust my eyes. Could this team possibly win the playoff? Sure.

Would they probably win it? Not based on what I’ve seen. Barring 2007 level chaos and the Playoff Committee shocking everyone, this team won’t be higher than 5th. With the team not able to play Alabama or Oklahoma, my next choice would be Houston. And since this is a dream match-up, I’ll dream big. Ohio State scores 140 points while holding the Fighting Hermans to 6 points. Tom realizes that he needs a couple more years of grooming, announces his resignation, and Urban immediately hires him as the OC.
