JT “Just Touch Downs”(to quote my wife) Barrett was the cure for what ails the Buckeye offense. Was there ever really any doubt as to the effectiveness of his type of play? The only downside to his type of play may be Ezekiel’s early production in games, but really it takes the offense time to get him his yards anyway. The fact that Coach Meyer mentions the defense first in his post game interview should give you a pretty good idea where the mindset is now too.

Offensive

tOSU Offensive MVP

JT=Just Touchdowns

— Jackie Hunt (@jlhBUCKS) October 25, 2015

MDotySr – J.T Barrett hands down!
Joe – J.T. Barrett is the obvious choice here right? Can I get a Hallelujah?
Ken – J.T. Barrett. Yes, the bountiful offense runs through him.
Patrick – JT Barrett. Welcome back my friend!
Scott – JT Barrett
JC – JT – no one else could be considered. He brought the power & the trust
Michael – J.T. Barrett, hello, 5 TDs, over 300 yards of offense.
WVa – JT Barrett quieted a lot of fans this weekend with his play. He showed why he is the perfect choice a the QB in this offense. He has the best read option fake of any quarterback I have watched.

JT Barrett is the unanimous choice!

tOSU O-line MVP

MDotySr – Pat Elflein for me….total road grader.
Joe – Taylor Decker’s Beard Game has greats like Brian Wilson and James Harden second guessing their skills. Taylor Decker is a man, in this child-size world.
Ken – Split between Decker’s solid drive blocking and Elflein’s trap blocking.
Patrick – Once again I’m going to go the unit as a whole.
Scott – Taylor Decker
JC – Taylor Decker…let’s all say a novena that he ends up a Bengal.
Michael – Decker, solid blocking all night
WVa – In agreement with JC here, totally would love to see Taylor Decker in Bengals stripes next year. He has taken on the leader role pretty good now and is playing at a very high level.

Taylor Decker is the hands down winner here.

tOSU Offensive Top Play

MDotySr – Michael Thomas and his 50 yard magic for the score. Showed the NFL why he should be a first round selection.
Joe – Mike Thomas stiff-arming defensive backs to their grave on a simple hitch and turning it into six pulled on my heart strings.
Ken – Zeke’s 55 yard TD run. “My” games are not complete until Zeke snaps off a long TD run
Patrick – Michael Thomas’s long TD gallop.
Scott – Braxton Miller’s circus catch. He’s better on his back than Miley Cyrus
JC – Mike Thomas … his 50 yard gain in the 2nd. It opened up the path to the rout. .
Michael – I know a lot are going to say Miller’s catch, but I’ll take Thomas’ TD catch, made 3 guys miss and gone!
WVa – #shhhh Michael Thomas is always a big play waiting to happen and it seems there’s always a “shimmy” to it. He showed his moves and speed running away from Rutgers on a simple out!

Michael Thomas is the man this week.

tOSU Offensive Unsung

MDotySr – The Buckeye Offensive Line as a whole.
Joe – How about the receiving corps as a whole? They made big plays, held onto the football and made the blocks needed to open up running lanes for Zeke and J.T. Zero incompletions by the way for the first team offense in the second half.
Ken – WR Kato Mitchell for trying to channel Evan Spencer’s badass run blocking. Well done, Kato.
Patrick – Warren Ball, just for having to have Fowler call him Warren BELL for a while drive.
Scott – Jalin Marshall
JC – I was going to say Jalin Marshall. But after reading Joe’s response I am sold.
Michael – Thomas He’s our best WR but gets lost sometimes
WVa – All of Zone 6. like Joe said, they aren’t getting lost in the importance of how this team is really starting to perform.

The entire receiving corps win by one vote!

Defensive

JOEl HALE MIGHT BREAK A DUDE

— The BBC (@The_BBC) October 25, 2015

tOSU Defensive MVP

MDotySr – Gareon Conley and his “sick” INT not to mention blocking a punt.
Joe – Joey Bosa had his best game of the season against Rutgers and a lot of it had to do with turning down his motor and focusing on technique. Beautiful play from Bosa all night long
Ken – Gareon Conley – He had 5 tackles and an INT. An overall solid game
Patrick – Joey Bosa. Caused havoc all night.
Scott – Joey Bosa
JC – Joey Bosa. He stood tall and showed why there are rumblings of him going #1 in the NFL Draft.
Michael – Lee had a great game, he was all over the place
WVa – Gareon Conley is slowing coming off of the unsung list to everybody. Definitely the best in the secondary at this point and time, but they are all playing at a very high level and it was nice seeing Lattimore play.

Joey Bosa is basically unstoppable and it’s because of some of the production by a couple ‘unsungs’ (see Below).

tOSU D-line MVP

MDotySr – Bosa without explanation.
Joe – Since I went with Bosa as my defensive MVP, I’ll shoot some love to Joel Hale, who did a great job filling in for Tommy Schutt after struggling on the first drive.
Ken – Joey Bosa – He only had 3 tackles, but 2 were TFL (1 sack)
Patrick – See above.
Scott – Bosa again
JC – Bosa … Bosa … Bosa…plain and simple.
Michael – Bosa. He was a man among boys out there.
WVa – Joel Hale was flat-out lit up on Saturday night. Maybe a little nerves to begin with on getting flattened early but turned things around nicely and even got in a shrug of his own.

Joey Bosa wins easily but shares with shrug mirror Joel Hale for looks!

tOSU Defensive Top Play

MDotySr – Conley’s INT.
Joe – The double shoulder shrug play from Hale and Bosa. Oh heck yes.
Ken – Rutgers boinking their FG attempt on their first series. They moved the ball on OSU but came up empty
Patrick – Bosa’s sack
Scott – Blocked punt. Just for the heck of it.
JC – I loved Conley’s pick.
Michael – Bosa sack, he made the RT look silly, then a RB tried, yeah right.
WVa – Hasn’t been a better defensive play this season than Conley’s pick

Conley wins this week by virtue of two great plays!

tOSU Defensive Unsung

MDotySr – Darron Lee. He played his best game in a while. Very disruptive.
Joe – How about the way that Eli Apple blanketed secondary receivers on Saturday? In his home state, he stepped up and showed that he is in the discussion as one of the best DBs in the country. That’s what happens when the ole’ ball coach calls you out the week before the game.
Ken – Booker & Hooker – Dante & Malik got some extended time and played well
Patrick – Sam Hubbard. Seemed to be all over the place.
Scott – All hail Hale
JC – Eli was back home in Jersey. He stepped up and played exceptional for family & friends.
Michael – Conley becoming a great DB, and blocked a punt
WVa – Sam Hubbard and Darron Lee are causing enough havoc right now that they were simply better than their match-ups Saturday night. Hubbard impresses me more at this stage than Bosa did, Looking forward to his future.

This one is a toss-up! No easy way to pick a clear cut winner and we have no tie-breakers

Odds and Ends

tOSU Special Teams MVP

MDotySr – Gareon Conley for the Trifecta!
Joe – I’m giving my Special Teams Award out to the Buckeye Nation crowd at High Point Solutions Stadium on Saturday. Are you kidding me? Two Zeke chants ON THE ROAD? Some O-H-I-Os delievered? AND THE EPIC TROLLING Chant — #ShootTheCannon
Ken – Gareon Conley; great effort on the blocked punt.
Patrick – Cam
Scott – punt return team
JC – Conley again … but perhaps I should stay with CAM
Michael – We had special teams last night? Marshall did well returning punts
WVa – Gareon Conley is wrapping up the awards this week

Gareon Conley with his third award.

tOSU Needs Improvement

MDotySr – Open the game with the pedal to the floor and keep it there for 60 minutes.
Joe – To answer your question Michael, the Bucks have forced four of their seven opponents to punt on their first drive. All four have been four-and-out situations. I wouldn’t say there is a lot to improve for Ohio State, but continuing to improve obviously is something every team in the country should be trying to do at this time of the year.
Ken – Slow starts. But, since Coaching Staff seems to be making timely adjustments, I’m not too worked up
Patrick – Dontre Wilson.
Scott – slow starts.
JC – Slow starts. But if the final comes out like this one … I am not concerned any longer.
Michael – Defense to start the game. Have we ever forced a 3 and out or a quick punt on the other teams 1st possession this year yet?
WVa – Continue to defer the coin toss maybe the offense shouldn’t go first

Worries about slow starts seem to be the thought for the day

Rutgers MVP

I, as the site in which the awards run on, decree it as law. https://t.co/cSf5ebAMfA

— The BBC (@The_BBC) October 25, 2015

Hey @wvabuckeye the Cannon Guys get my Rutgers MVP award this week. Just Mark it down.

— PatrickJones (@pj844) October 25, 2015

MDotySr – The Cannon Crew.
Joe – The Shoot the Cannon Crew! Hard-Nosed. To The Grindstone. Didn’t Hold any Gun Powder back when given the chance to fire away late in the fourth. AND didn’t fold under the pressure of Buckeye Nation when they asked them to fire the cannon. True Warriors.
Patrick – The cannon crew! The last drive of Rutgers may have been the highlight of the game w Herbie and Fowler laughing and showing the cannon crew followed by the OSU crowd chanting “shoot the cannon”.
Scott – cannon crew
JC – Yeah – Cannon Crew. Tough as nails.
Michael – Carroo, you have to think what might’ve been if he could’ve keep going.
WVa – Cannon Crew, the one guys look didnt change all night, even when they fnally got to shoot it off. I figured he would have smiled. Their moment when the one guy is saying “don’t look now, but we are on camera” then the guy looks and “oh gaaaaawwwwwwwd”

The Rutgers Cannon Crew was amazing!

B1G Coach MVP

MDotySr – Urban Meyer for showing the right decision that lead to the right production!
Joe – Mike Locksley might have lost by one to Penn State on Saturday but he deserves credit for putting his team in the best position to win by starting Perry Hills and giving him free reign. I hope Locksley lands on his feet at the end of the season.
Ken – Pat Fitzgerald – another win for Northwestern. They were outplayed but didn’t make mistakes vs Nebraska
Patrick – I’m giving it to Urbs for finally making the switch to JT.
Scott – Fitzgerald for circling the wagon like the Buffalo Bills
JC – Urbie. The shift over to JT was needed and actually took a swallowing of pride. Urban is the real deal. He is the best.
Michael – Ferentz. He gets a lot of grief but his team will probably be in Indy undefeated.
WVa – Coach Meyer earned the opportunity last season to be the first Buckeye head coach in a long time to win the COTY. I am guessing he will lose to Ferentz this season because he is expected to just win.

Coach Meyer is the choice this week and we couldn’t be happier!
