These have not been very fun times for most of us trying to figure out what the heck the Buckeyes are doing through the first three weeks of the season, mostly after Va Tech though. One thing is for sure, the Silver Bullets are back with a vengeance and I suspect most of the staff would prefer to skip over the offensive (either definition works by the way) awards and just talk defense until the stars on the other side show up again!
Offensive
Which is it?
tOSU Offensive MVP
MDotySr – Michael Thomas – Only offensive player that “stood out” during the whole game.
Joe – Michael Thomas — He was money when he was given a chance to get the ball
Ken – Michael Thomas
Mali – Can’t Guard Mike
Scott – Zeke, by default.
WVa – Technically, teams can guard Mike, it’s just that they can’t stop him. I may just tweet to him to change his handle, he ‘favorited’ my tweet on Saturday night.
tOSU O-line MVP
MDotySr – 1st half they all sucked! 2nd half they all played well, especially in pass protection.
Joe – If Urban Meyer is still doggin’ them, I am too.
Ken – Whoever had the fewest illegal procedure/holding penalties called on them.
Mali – Nope. Nope, nope, nope
Scott – Boren because I actually want to pick a player this week.
WVa – I am going to have to go with Nobody this week as much as it pains me, cannot find a single positive from last game
Best awareness of his body and the control to get his foot down that I have ever seen.
tOSU Offensive Top Play
MDotySr – Michael Thomas’s TD catch while keeping that foot in bounds.
Joe – J.T. Barrett’s 23 Yard TD pass to Michael Thomas
Ken – Michael Thomas’s TD catch
Mali – EzE Channels his mom and hurdles some poor fool.
Scott – TD pass to Thomas
WVa – Michael Thomas’ TD, only catch even prettier was in Bama game
tOSU Offensive Unsung
MDotySr – Curtis Samuel, as he was at least relevant and made a really nice adjustment on a pass thrown behind him.
Joe – Curtis Samuel didn’t have eye popping stats but he helped moved the ball when the Bucks desperately needed to.
Ken – Curtis Samuel seemed to (mostly) keep the ball moving forward
Mali – NIU’s longsnapper. Best field position for Ohio State all day due to his body of work
Scott – Braxton
WVa – Curtis Samuel here as well, met his father on Saturday and enjoyed seeing him being excited for the day his son was having.
Defensive
Great read and nice job outrunning their speedy WR
tOSU Defensive MVP
MDotySr – Tyquan Lewis and not only for the QB sacks and pressure but the way he pursued the ball and did not give up.
Joe – The Defensive line as a unit made this a ballgame that OSU could win.
Ken – Vonn Bell had another solid game
Mali – Gareon Conley
Scott – Perry
WVa – I pondered and pondered here, and one player is really jumping out to me and that’s Darron Lee. The difference between a win and possible loss and he called it at halftime!
tOSU D-line MVP
MDotySr – Adolphus Washington/Tyquan Lewis. Both played extremely well!
Joe – Tyquan Lewis was destroying rushers all day.
Ken – Adolphus Washington. He’s proving to be almost un-blockable
Mali – Washington
Scott – Bosa
WVa – ‘A-Dolph-Us’ is a chant that Block-O needs to start. He was a motor on Saturday that NIU had no answer for.
See you two later!
tOSU Defensive Top Play
MDotySr – Darron Lee Pick Six.
Joe – Darron Lee taking it to the house
Ken – Darron Lee’s “instant offense” pick-6
Mali – DL to the House
Scott – Lee Pick 6
WVa – D Lee pick six, ’nuff said
tOSU Defensive Unsung
MDotySr – Sam Hubbard with two sacks in limited action. Future is bright my friends.
Joe – The Vonn Bell Hit Academy
Ken – Tommy Schutt; he did a nice job anchoring the center while making some plays
Mali – Tyquan Lewis
Scott – Tommy Schutt
WVa – As I look through mentions and listen to some of the national media, I realize that nobody is paying attention to Gareon Conley and he is playing at a very high level right now, just ask Coach Meyer
Odds and Ends
tOSU Special Teams MVP
MDotySr – Jack Willoughby because he did not miss this week.
Joe – Cameron Johnston — 53 yard average on Punts was huge in this one. #TresselBall
Ken – Cam Johnston: he hit the punts to get OSU needed yards and a longer field to defend
Mali – Aussie Aussie Aussie, although Bryce Haynes’ Heisman Campaign is still rolling
Scott – Jack Willoughby
WVa – Cam Johnston is losing his accent just a little bit and I think it’s because he’s putting some amazing English on the football (bad I know) and was possibly the team MVP last week.
I’d be screaming mad too if I wasn’t pulling the staff together
tOSU Needs Improvement
MDotySr – Finding an offensive identity which starts with naming and sticking with a QB then a game plan.
Joe – Coaching. I can’t believe I’m saying it but this staff needs to find out the direction they want to go offensively with their play-makers.
Ken – Offensive coaching. Their ineptitude is setting the tone for a once potent offense
Mali – Everywhere on Offense
Scott – Where do I start?
WVa – The offensive coaching staff is taking a beating and now it’s the fear of many that they just won’t mesh the way the previous staff did. I have an article coming later this week where I talk about why Beck, Alford and Warriner are struggling to mesh.
Northern Illinois MVP
MDotySr – Boomer Mays
Joe – Paris Logan and Boomer Mays. Both are studs.
Ken – Boomer Mays (tackling machine) and Shawun Lurry (ball-hawk)
Mali – Shawun Lurry
Scott – whole team
WVa -Boomer Mays will be playing on Sundays for sure.
B1G Coach MVP
MDotySr – Pat Fitzgerald
Joe – Kirk Ferentz — HE BEAT THE DOOZE! DOWN GOES THE DOOZIE!
Ken – Pat Fitzgerald – The Wildcats keep rolling
Mali – Fitz
Scott – Pat Fitzgerald
WVa – Kirk Ferentz is making his way back into the discussion and pressing Fitz for the top spot here

WVa – As I look through mentions and listen to some of the national media, I realize that nobody is paying attention to Gareon Conley and he is playing at a very high level right now, just ask Coach Meyer
- Tommy Schutt get’s the nod here and may be one of the truly unsung members of the defense
Odds and Ends
tOSU Special Teams MVP
MDotySr – Jack Willoughby because he did not miss this week.
Joe – Cameron Johnston — 53 yard average on Punts was huge in this one. #TresselBall
